Description

From Alan Gratz, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Refugee, comes this wrenching novel about one boy's struggle to survive ten concentration camps during the Holocaust. Based on the inspiring true life story of Jack Gruener.10 concentration camps. 10 different places where you are starved, tortured, and worked mercilessly. It's something no one could imagine surviving. But it is what Yanek Gruener has to face. As a Jewish boy in 1930s Poland, Yanek is at the mercy of the Nazis who have taken over. Everything he has, and everyone he loves, have been snatched brutally from him. And then Yanek himself is taken prisoner -- his arm tattooed with the words PRISONER B-3087. He is forced from one nightmarish concentration camp to another, as World War II rages all around him. He encounters evil he could have never imagined, but also sees surprising glimpses of hope amid the horror. He just barely escapes death, only to confront it again seconds later. Can Yanek make it through the terror without losing his hope, his will -- and, most of all, his sense of who he really is inside? Based on an astonishing true story.

This book is so good that I couldn’t put down ! I don’t really like history, but it hooked me in. It was so interesting that I want to learn more about that era in history! I am the normal book worm in my class and it took me 1 hour to read this book I was so hyped! This is my favorite book that was not in a series. This book will make you feel like you are in the situation with Yanek (the main character). It left me on the edge of my seat! I highly recommend this book to 11-14! This is a must read for sure.

This book was by far the best WW2 book I have read. The storyline is amazing, the description of events is phenomenal, and despite some gore (which is small compared to real WW2 events) this book is AMAZING and should be read by tons of people.

This book is so good I couldn’t put it down and it gives a very good example on how children were treated in the death camps and work camps that there was no sympathy towards anyone of them even a non-Jews. And the different camps to different rules like some camps bit less brutal than others all and all this book is amazing

This was a wonderful book! All though it was very bone chilling and sad, I loved how you felt like you were there. This book taught me what horrible things happened in the camps. I don’t really like reading, but I just couldn’t put it down!

I love this book I've read it 32 times it's so action packed and suspenseful and really hooked me. I never wanted to stop reading this book. The book is all about ww2 and how the nazis treated the Jews the main character in the book is Yanek Gruner also known as Jack Gruner he survived through all seven death camps and the 2 death marches he started at age 10 and went to age 17. Though I don't recommend this book for kids 0-7 years old.
