Reviews

  • Original is Great, Editing is Lacking

This short book has more typos than I've seen in years of reading. It seems that it was probably automatically digitized using OCR and some things got lost (like "in" becoming "m"). So Tao Te Ching gets 5-stars, this edition gets 3.

This is one of the worst translations I’ve read. I found Christian overtones seeping through. Deleted the book. Ugh.

“Knowledge of the Tao, how vast! I am like a sailor far beyond a place of anchorage, adrift on a boundless ocean. Common people are useful, I am awkward. I stand in contrast to them--but oh, the prize I seek is food from our Mother Tao!”
  • Interesting.

I liked the book. Some chapters resonated with me, while other chapters left me feeling confused or curious.

All I can say is this book gives you a lot to think about. It’s beauty is in it’s simplicity. Be like water and go with the flow!

In this version, there is to much editoralizing on the part of the translator. I would prefer, to have a transliteration of the Chinese. The writing of Lazu Tzu, and it simplicity ends up being color/misrepresented by the translator. This noted, I would be guilty of the same, perhaps if I was doing the translating.

Compared this translation with others and it doesn’t allow the book to come through with all the intention in messaging

It has some parts that are a bit beyond me, ( as I’m only 18 lol). So at times it can be hard to grasp. But of what I understood, it was beautiful & intriguing. If you came as far as reading these comments, I suggest you read this.

Important to read, can help you find the "way" to live life. However hard to read at times.
