Miss Primrose needs to be punished.

A member of the wickedly wanton Inn of the Red Chrysanthemum, where the most taboo and illicit pleasures are indulged, Miss Primrose—or Mistress Primrose, as she prefers—left Nicholas Edelton a shell of a man. Now his older brother, Spencer Edelton, the Marquess of Carey, intends to provide her a set-down she will never forget.

Weary from exacting her revenge upon the man who raped her sister, Beatrice Primrose has had her fill of men of privilege and presumption, but she accepts a fateful invitation from a handsome nobleman to spend a sennight at his estate for a grand sum of money. She soon learns, however, that she will not get to reprise her role as Mistress. To her horror, she finds his lordship expects her to submit to him!

But Beatrice won’t give in so easily.

In a clash of wills, fueled by vengeance and lust, Lord Carey and Miss Primrose wrestle for dominance in, and out of, the bedchamber. Their biggest struggle, however, may be against their own desires…

Can Miss Primrose take what she dishes? And will Lord Carey succumb or succeed in punishing Miss Primrose?

Wow! I could not put the book down. This was the first time I have ever read anything so graphic and the warnings were true, however, that is not what holds your interest. It is the story that keeps you reading and in particular, the character of Miss Beatrice Primrose. She is a strong character with a mind of her own and you want to find out what she is thinking and what is going to happen to her next. Then there is Lord Carey. While at first I did not really like the character, eventually you start to like him and then half way through the book, oh wow. The main story occurs over a week and while you would think that would not be long enough to develop the characters, we see the events unfold and their relative perspectives, which makes the characters more likeable and draws you into the story as a whole. Eventually the very graphic details about sex and the pleasure the two from each other (what I assume the real dominance/submissive is supposed to be like) are not shocking. If the characters had not come alive (no pun intended), then it would be boring - the same old plot line, etc., etc. The description of the plot - a set down, how does that work? What can you possibly do to someone to make them pine for you - well read the book and it will become clear. I have not read 50 Shades of Gray (have heard mixed reviews of that), but from what I understand, skip that book and read this one. While we have to remember that in essence, this is a romance novel, it’s not like the typical formulaic book. I did not think the book was going to end the way it did, but it did make sense for the characters. And yes, it all makes sense at the end. I gave it 4 stars because I really enjoyed the book and couldn’t put it dodwn, but after it was over, I was not reeling from the book (which in my opinion is a 5 star - a story that you can’t quite shake). Hope you enjoy it as much I did.

Loved this series. I loved reading about the back and forth between the Beatrice and "my lordship". The sneaky Beatrice, especially that first night was delightful! Her struggle to turn the tables was fun to read and so very believable. I can only give four stars as I feel I was let down in the last part (XX) with the ending. I found it a little jumpy and hard to follow. As well, I found the ending to be very predictable, and very similar to a few of Em Brown's other stories. The rest of the parts from the first to part nineteen were very explicit in every act and for the most part believable. I would strongly recommend this book for those who enjoy a little kink in their stories.
