Description

USA Today Bestselling Author Lisa B. Kamps makes sparks fly with a series about hot and heroic firefighters who put more than their lives on the line...

Will their second chance at love be snuffed out?

Nick Lansing was a bad boy. He didn't need anything except his fast car, his guitar, his never-ending partying, and his long-time girlfriend...until one bad decision changed their lives forever. Now he's a respected teacher, living his life on the straight-and-narrow and proud of his accomplishments. But he still can't help but think about the one woman who always made him burn...

Michaela Donaldson had her whole life planned out: college, music, and a happy-ever-after with her first true love. One reckless night changed all that. She's a firefighter now, getting down and dirty while doing her job. So what if she's a little rough around the edges, a little too careless, a little too detached? She's happy, living life on her own terms--until Nicky Lansing shows back up.

Is ten years long enough to heal the physical and emotional wounds from the past? Can they reconcile who they were with who they've become--or will it be a case of Once Burned is enough?

I was skeptical about this book but the more I read the deeper involved I became. This is not a happy story. The characters are flawed and are dealing with their difficult past. But as they work through their feelings the reader is pulled along with them. I would highly recommend this book. The writing is excellent. And although it was an enjoyable ride it was a terrific read.

Thought this would be a slam dunk book but it was the complete opposite. The book is about a grudge holding girl and an alcoholic guy.
  • Wow! Emotional Rollercoster!

I give this a 4.5 star rating (which is rare for me as I don't usually give more than 4 stars to any book). This is the first book in a new series Firehouse Fourteen. I've read other books by the author and was curious to see how she would approach this series compared to her hockey series. You can tell that she is a former firefighter by how well she knows the workings at the firehouse as well as what they are experiencing on the job. While the locale and background has changed, she did a good job with the storyline and development of the characters. It also helps that the action is hot and steamy. While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone and does not end in a cliffhanger. Michaela Donaldson and Nicky Lansing were a couple. She had her life planned out (college, music, and Nicky). He was the typical bad boy (partying, guitar, fast car, and Michaela). An accident forced them apart. Ten years later another accident brings them back together. Both are very different now people than they were back then. She goes by Mike and is a firefighter. He goes by Nick and is a high school English teacher. They both realize that even ten years later the past isn't as buried as either one thought it was. They get stuck working with each other on a project. Can either one of them move on without dealing with what happened in the past? Or will they give themselves a chance at happiness together? I got so caught up in the emotional struggles of these two that I couldn't put the book down. The author did a fantastic job of giving depth, thoughts, emotions, and struggles to these characters. This book made me feel like it was me dealing with them and not just reading a storyline in a book. I can't wait to read future books in this series! I highly recommend that you read this book!
