Reviews
Peace Talks is a great book
5By GabeturmanMy only downside was it felt too short when it first came out. It makes sense however because it was a split book. Definitely worth the money and I bought the next one immediately.Grab that cash?
1By Csteele0040Finally broke down and read it after a friend got it at release and told me it was terrible. Kind of worried about getting battle grounds if releasing irrelevant half books is the standard now. Its kinda embarrassing, gonna assume it was the publishers fault.Good read
5By Eeyore,WAiBooks will not let me escape without me telling you something about this book, it’s a fun time and I recommend this series Of books.Worth the Wait
5By ParanoidLadyAs with all Jim Butcher books, Peace Talk delivered on adrenaline, characters and gritty realism. This is the first time The Dresden Files had ever left a major cliffhanger and only leaves the reader wanting morePointless
2By CrevelThis is the first Dresden book I’ve had to make myself read. I’m pretty sure half the book was Dresden’s personal narrative cribbed from all the previous books. No interesting story development except for setting up the next book. This was an obvious ploy to add filler to a story so it could be sold as two books. Skip this one and proceed right to the next one.Foreplay
4By KiloibAn excellent build up to the next book, I’m glad I waited to read it until Battle Ground was released.Harry grow up
2By Vacation wranglerFirst off yes, this should be combined with the upcoming book, this was either a cash grab or his publisher demanded he release something. It feels incomplete. At this point though Dresden fans are so far in they are just going to buy what ever has Dresden name slapped on it. No one here is new. Second, I have been with Harry since the beginning and honestly his character development seems stalled. Jim Butcher is still writing like over hormoned 20 year old instead of having Harry mature as he gets older. 1/4 of this book sees Harry noticing how over sexy each woman is. Harry has lost his edge for strategy and now just shows up places. Third, Jim seems to be parking characters because he can’t move on with their development, ala Thomas and Murphy. Jim has been going through allot in his personal life and it is reflected in his work. He planned for Dresden to only be so many books, and now it seems like he either can’t land the plane or wants to draw it out. Stop releasing over exaggerated short stories and focus on the quality and wrap it up. I will buy the next book, but if it stinks like this I’m done. I can give Harry a better ending in my imagination then this.Good read, where’s the rest?
2By kg_8888I’m a huge fan of the Harry Dresden books. That being said, where’s the rest of this one? I didn’t pay $15 for half a book...Cold Days
1By shdow dedeI wish he would have just charged double the $ and given us the whole book. Can’t wait for the next one!!
5By Chick game dad reviewerWish there was a sneak peek of the next bookWhere is the other half of the book?
2By CommonName6Very disappointed. This felt like it barely got to the halfway point of a typical Butcher book.A bad Dresden Files is still good.
3By Shoei907HARD TO RATE A BOOK AFTER READING THE FIRST HALF. Not my favorite in the series.....cough, Deadbeat......but still enjoyable. Unlike past books the plot felt forced like tension created instead of natural. I don’t like the “to be continued” ending either. This is clearly half a book that is twice as long as typical from this author. He claimed he’d have to sell for $50 but there’s any number of 900 page books that sell for normal prices, feels like a money grab. At least the next one will be out in a couple months. From 2000 to 2015 he released 23 books then a five year gap followed by this......he must be running out of money. Hate to say this about my favorite series but Dresden Files has become stale. It picked up steam in the final third just to end short. I’m going to stick with Jim through a stumble or two.......everyone has bad days. If you haven’t read Codex Alera, do yourself a favor and check it out. An inventive fun read created out of an Internet bet.Half the story
3By uyyuuyyuuyyuI love Butcher but this book is not great. It felt like the publisher wanted two books rather than editing the story into one good book. There is a lot of filler featuring the same backstories that is repeated in multiple chapters. It does nothing to advance the narrative or develop the characters. Also, I hate to say it, but everything is too easy now for Dresden. There was no real tension, I never really felt like he was in danger or wouldn’t achieve his objectives. I sort of felt like I was listening to an old familiar playlist. Enjoyable but disappointing, I would have happily waited longer and paid more for a good, real Butcher story.glad it finally was released, but...
3By Theda12thedafelt like a short story with a cliff hanger. Felt more like an outline of a story (or a first draft). Looking forward to part 2, to see who dies (see the online christmas story that was put out years ago)Lame so disappointing
1By MarkWhiteLotusSo disappointed in this book. It reads like someone else wrote it, or that Butcher just did it for the money and had no passion for the characters. As much as i love the character of Dresden I don’t recommend this book. Save your money.Another fantastic Dresden Story by Jim Butcher
5By interested tv show fanaticJust greatGreat to see Harry Dresden back in action
3By IH8ComixologyHowever, this is not so much a novel as it is extensive exposition setting up the next novel which is supposedly due out in September. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Butcher wrote a longer than usual book and was forced or persuaded by the suits at the publisher to split it into two books. ("Hey! We'll make twice the scratch!") Since this process took some time, they also "sent notes" suggesting the extensive amount of what they used to call "pipe" in 1990s Hollywood-speak. Granted I'm just spitballing here. What we end up with is a less than satisfying novel but at least it's nice to get all the old favorites back again after far too long. I hope the next one is a lot better and I can look back on this as a minor bump in the road.Wow this was a foolish marketing decision
2By Eric LerdalI can disagree with but understand the economics of turning one book into two; but, why delay the release of the second half of the book? This was a stupid decision. Since all I read was an introduction, I doubt I will still have enthusiasm to buy the actual story months from now. By that time, I will have read other books by other authors and likely will have moved on from this story. The writing is entertaining and the whole story looks like it will probably be too, but the editorial/publishing decision that was made makes it doubtful I’ll be seriously following this series. My point is that I probably would have paid for two books, but since I have to wait so long for the second one in quarantine time, my attention will be on other books by the time the end of this one comes out.Good stuff
5By Arc40023Doesn’t disappoint. Don’t see what all the negative reviews are about; it is a tad bit on the short side but I was thoroughly entertained the entire time. Keep up the good work.
