Begin with breakfast! Unless you have a snack sometime during the evening, you fast longer between your evening meal and breakfast than between any other two meals. An adequate breakfast renews your energy, mental and physical pep, and can do much for your sunny disposition.
With planning, it’s easy to provide breakfasts that furnish the required one-fourth to one-third of the day’s food needs. In addition, planned breakfasts can be more varied and tempting; they can be attractive enough to encourage the family to enjoy a cheerful meal together; they can be arranged so some of the food may be prepared the night before.
Choice of breakfast foods will depend upon the activities of the family and its resulting food needs. It will also vary with particular food favorites in some families as well as availability of many foods.
Brunch is neither breakfast nor lunch, but a delightful combination of both. It is served any time before one o’clock. Brunch, served early, generally means simple breakfast foods. Served later, the menu may be an expanded and more elaborate breakfast, possibly served buffet style. Or it may more closely resemble a luncheon, although soups and salads seldom are on the menu and the dessert, if any, is light, such as fruit or cookies.
