  • Hopefully, not the last Pendergast Adventure!

Definitely the best Pendergast adventure, thus far. My grave concern is that the Pendergast saga may end here. Please let this not be so.

Disappointing, slow paced and a et deux machina ending. Basically an unfinished book written to lead you to purchase the next volume in what should have been one book. These arthors have done this before and i dont want to continue down this lead in path.

I absolutely LOVE this series and their other books as well. I’ve read almost everything they’ve written. Together and solo. I wish I’d known it was TBC like many other reviewers. I probably still would have read it but wouldn’t have been so disappointed. Hope the rest is coming soon…been a really long wait.
  • This is probably a me thing. But I did not enjoy it.

I have read every single Pendergast book and enjoyed the growth and series immensely. BUT … this book was not my cup of tea. I am not a huge fan of “time travel” books. So reading this has taken so long. I’m still not done. Usually I finish their books in a day or two if I’m busy. It’s been months. This is probably a me thing. But I did not enjoy it.

Very good, well written book with interesting story lines and plot About the only negative thing is I had to look up a lot of the words (many times just to confirm that I knew the correct — if not simpler — meaning) so I guess it could be said the prose was a good exercise in vocabulary improvement.
  • Can’t wait for the next installment!

This is not a full book. This is just part 1. Better to read it when the second book is finish.

Could not put it down. A most engaging story line that held many surprises.
  • What a Let Down

From the authors: “First: thank you for reading this book. Second: our apologies for what is, at least in part, an inconclusive ending.” It’s not inconclusive; it’s unfinished; it’s half a book. Absolutely nothing ties together, and it reads like a random brainstorming session potentially with mind altering substances involved. Unless you’ve died, why release an unfinished work? For true fans on the Pendergast series, you will be disappointed - wait for the actual conclusion to be released before starting this book .

I would have thought better of these esteemed and well established authors to finish (or half-finish) a book with a sophomoric “TBC”….. I would rather have waited and been treated to the Full Monty at a later date. Now one gets to pony up twice for what should have been one novel.

Enjoy the Pendergast series. Have read all of them.
  • Weakest book by the writers.

I have been a fanatic reader of everything written by Preston & Child - this was the most uneven of their collaborations. I went from struggling to read some sections to being unable to put down the next section. The worse thing was the non-ending - ending. Very unsatisfying.
  • Excellent thriller

I am a huge fan but this book is really only 1/2 a tale! It abruptly ends with a lame excuse from the authors. This is obviously a way to rip off loyal readers by getting them to pay twice for the same novel!

Are you kidding me! Half a book and no notice given to the reader! Like Part 1 or something. And full price. Not cool people.
  • Unethical

Author is unethical and money grubbing. I have zero issue reading a book series, just tell before I buy the book. If you have to apologize at the end of the book, you’ve done something wrong. Sorry I took $20 out of your wallet, I wanted it more than you. Hopefully by the time the next book comes out, I’ll have forgotten about this book.
  • Disappointing is putting it mildly!

What a huge DISAPPOINTMENT! Boring with a capital B!! I wish I had never wasted my time on this. And to top it off the story had no conclusion and the ending will be revealed in the next book! This was a waste of my time and money. If I decide to read the next book I’ll be getting it from my local library. Did the editor even bother to read the book?

The authors already foreshadow that this is the end of the series, but the dangling end is a very poor excuse. They should've withheld publication of this title and finished writing the closure before publishing. The Cabinet of Dr. Leng implies resolution of the many plots of the series, but the authors seem to just want to milk another book. Again, disappointing....
