Description
The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien's world. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part. The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor. Included in the book are several shorter works. The Ainulindalë is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. The Akallabêth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age, as narrated in The Lord of the Rings.
Reviews
the book version has the maps
1By noobssterwhere is the maps seriouslyDon't buy without illustrations
1By Coolhandluke005To really get into this book you need need need maps and illustrations. Without them the book is near impossible to follow and not nearly as good to read.Mistake? fraud?
1By hskepticI had so looked forward to seeing illustrations in crisp iPad resolution. That was what the description of this purchase promised. After I paid, I found that I had paid for a plain vanilla edition, different cover than the one represented in the description, and no illustrations. Is this a case of sloppiness? fraud in the inducement? I urge all of you who think you're paying for illustrations, and who get none, to join me in raising a fuss.Crazy
5By LeviMcDuffieLike this is mad good love it but is hard to get into but battle through like the first fifty and u will coast I read it like three times and I love it every timeIllustrations?
1By JenlaineThe description states that there are fifty full color illustrations in this edition of The Silmarillion but they were not included in the book I downloaded. This, in fact, was the only reason I purchased it for my iPad considering that I already own the book itself (sans illustrations). I'm disappointed.
