Description

All three parts of the epic masterpiece combined in one definitive edition of the text.

Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power—the means by which he intends to rule Middle-earth. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring—the ring that rules them all—which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as the Ring is entrusted to his care. He must leave his home and make a perilous journey across the realms of Middle-earth to the Crack of Doom, deep inside the territories of the Dark Lord. There he must destroy the Ring forever and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose. Since it was first published in 1954, The Lord of the Rings has been a book people have treasured. Steeped in unrivalled magic and otherworldliness, its sweeping fantasy has touched the hearts of young and old alike.

I'll buy it when the typos are fixed. Even the description above has typos. Really disappointing.
  • Great book, price is highway robbery

I love this book, and want it in ebook format. However, twenty-two plus tax when they haven't even killed a tree is too much.
  • Book is great, now keeps crashing

I have read this book up to chapter 3 in book 2 of The Fellowship of the Ring and now whenever I try to open the book it crashes. This does not happen with any other book, and happens both on my iPad and iPhone. I would give this book a 5 star rating but I can't even finish it because it causes iBooks to crash!!!
  • Will buy when typos and maps are up to par

This masterpiece deserves better attention to detail than what is being reported. I'll purchase this once I've read in the Customer Reviews the typos have been corrected (even though I've read the printed version three times in the last several years).

Harper-Collins needs to pull their heads out of their #%^}*&! The maps of Middle Earth are TERRIBLE. Very very small and low resolution. Double tapping them allows you to zoom in, but all you get is unreadable pixels. F+

The movies are excellent and the books are even better. I can't understand why anyone would complain about the price. It's worth it!!

Is this all three books? I wanted to be sure before I bought it. (I just downloaded the sample and the chapters look like it but I still wanted to ask.)

I've read some reviews about how it has only so many pages and about how expensive it is but I discovered that it has, at the current font size I use, over 4800 pages! I love the books and I love the movies and I would strongly recommend this as a purchase for those of you who can get into it and who also have the time to read it.

It's just like buying things in bulk, you buy more, you pay less per item if it all comes in one package. Buying A volume individually is only logical if you don't plan on reading any others or maybe if the last one is the only one you have left. Also, great books, a bit slower than the hobbit but the third volume makes up for getting through the second.
  • Lord of the rings isn't that great!

This is probably one of the most overhyped books I have ever read. Seen the films but the book just reads weak.
  • Price going up?

Why is the price going up? Seriously it's a 900 page book. I don't care that it's three combined. Thousands of other books of similar size are ten dollars, this one should be too. I want it badly but will not get it until price is fair.

It's called a discount. Brilliant book, by the way.

I don't understand why this edition is 15 and they have 3 books for 10 a piece. Is this not the whole book?
