Description

With her son’s cancer in remission, NYC medical examiner Laurie Montgomery returns to work—and finds her first case back to be a dangerous puzzle in this compelling mystery by the bestselling “master of the medical thriller.” (The New York Times)

The investigation into the shocking death of CIA agent Kevin Markham is a professional challenge for Dr. Laurie Montgomery, and it has her colleagues wondering if she still has what it takes after so much time away.

Markham’s autopsy results are inconclusive, and though it appears he’s been poisoned, toxiccology fails to corroborate Laurie’s suspicions. While her coworkers doubt her assassination theory, her determination wins over her husband, fellow medical examiner Jack Stapleton, and together they discover associations to a large pharmaceutical company and several biomedical start-ups dealing with stem-cell research.

Laurie and Jack must race to connect the dots before they are consumed in a dangerous game of biotech espionage.

This book is full of intrigue and startling moments. I enjoyed it up until the end when it ended abruptly and in a seeming rush to fill in all the blank spots I would much more preferred the story play out and almost felt cheated at the abrupt ending.
  • Dr Cook must be getting tired of writing

This was perhaps my least favorite Robin Cook book altho I was able to finish it. It wasn't a page turner and the characters lacked depth. A more apt name might be 'Why Laurie's Baby was Kidnapped by Violent Japanese Mafia.' So sad to read shallow drivel- it's not like Robin Cook to write this way.

Cure is a book that is capturing and adventurous as all other books that Robin Cook has written.

I've read them all and always anxiously await the next one. The addition of JJ to the mix adds to the excitement.

I enjoyed the book although a bit contrived & predictable. Lot of loose ends with the investigation. The recovery was too easy and seemed like just wanted to get to the end. Why were they so impatient with the blackmailing of the ME? Ending just seemed rushed. Jaysurge

Robin Cook at his finest. Fast paced, dramatic and intriguing, I couldn't put this book down. Dr Cook revisits some old characters which makes it easier to identify with them quickly. One of the scary things is that a lot of the story, although fictional, is also very possible, if not already fact. I would highly recommend this book. If you are a fan of Robin Cook, you will not be disappointed.

This makes great reading at any time of year but the next time I pick it up will be in the autumn with a fire roaring and scotch on ice.
