Description

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE

From New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult, tells the “compelling” (USA TODAY) novel about a girl who sues her parents for the rights to her own body. Featuring fan favorite Jesse, who appears in the upcoming novel Hollow Bones.

Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate—a life and a role that she has never challenged...until now.

Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister—and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.

A beautiful, heartbreaking, controversial, and honest book” (Booklist, starred review) My Sister’s Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child’s life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you?

The book I just read it. It’s been years since I’ve seen this movie and it gutted me. The end was different from the movie. Normally this is where/when I’d say the book is better. I can’t say that. And I can’t say that the movie is better either. Both are great on their own. That is a testament to Ms. Picoult. Now I need to go watch the movie.

This book gripped my heart, wrenched it out of my chest, and crushed it. It destroyed me. I cannot believe how good the writing was, how dynamic the characters were, the absolute shock I felt. I can’t stop crying

A great look at how each of the characters is impacted by the tragic circumstances of Kate's illness, and also the heroism and growth of each.

The book was good, it kind of dragged at some points. The ending had me sobbing like a baby, I was definitely not expecting the ending. Even though I liked the book a lot, I thought it would have been better if it ended differently. I would have liked to know a little bit more of how things played out.

I just finished reading this book and (without giving any of it away) it started good enough and the subject matter was an interesting one, but I truly felt for Anna and Jesse and felt they were totally overlooked. While I don't have children and can't speak on how the parents should have acted, but while I appreciate them doing everything they could for their dying child, you would think the fact that they were basically watching one of their kids die would make them appreciate their healthy children even more. Especially when one of said children is responsible (even without her consent) for keeping the ill child alive. I hated how they made Jesse a problem child but didn't really address the issues. For instance Kate has a psychiatrist, but what about the other two children? For me the ending sucked and there were loose ends about the parents' handling what happened to both Anna and Jesse.

I had watched this movie awhile back and thought I would give the book a chance... It is well written, captivating. I found myself never wanting to put it down. The ending was a shock for me..I barely recall the movie and so I am not even sure if it ended the same way. I found myself wanting to huddle my children into my arms and never let them go... Such a Heart wrenching story.

I liked this book, it kept me guessing and I couldn't stop reading. However, I will say that I did have a problem with how it was written. It's told from 6 different points of view, which I wouldn't have a problem with except every character sounded the same. She is a very colorful writer, but all of her characters had the same, really deep observations and thoughts on life. If one or two characters would've had these perspectives, I would have enjoyed it immensely. But all 6 of them? From a middle aged lawyer to a 13 year old girl? I don't buy it. It became very annoying to me as the book went on. Otherwise, excellent storyline.

This book was awesome like most of her books. I read it a while ago before there was a movie and thought it was a great story then. After the movie came out I was mad they changed the ending for the movie. It was very disappointing.
