Fitzgerald’s writing feels like poetry in motion — every line shimmers with beauty and ache. The Great Gatsby isn’t just a story about love or wealth; it’s about chasing dreams that are always just out of reach. Watching Gatsby cling to his vision, even as it crumbles, was heartbreaking yet strangely inspiring. I loved how the novel exposes the glittering emptiness of the Jazz Age — how everyone moves in circles of luxury but no one truly finds peace. By the end, Nick’s reflections hit me hard. Gatsby’s hope, his longing, and his refusal to let go of the dream made him one of the most unforgettable characters I’ve ever read. Fitzgerald captures something eternal — that quiet struggle between who we are and who we wish we could be. This book left me still thinking long after I closed it. Timeless, haunting, and absolutely worth five stars. 🌌

It's hard to say that the book is perfect, but it has an aura to it that feels mysterious and tragic. It's as it should be.

American Novel… do reread it again and again. There is always something newly revelatory. It is beautifully written, with stretches that are wonderfully poetic.

I hate this book with every fiber of my being. Biggest waste of time. Don’t know why it is so popular when it is incredibly boring and outdated.

This was a very interesting book that I bought for my AP Lang. class and the app made it very easy to dissect it and find certain parts of the book that I wanted to review again. The plot of the book was well written along with great character development

  • The tragic story of a man that dared to rise above his class

Reading this book as an adult was something else. The nuances that you miss when you read as someone that hasn't been hurt or seen more of the world are glaringly apparent as a more experienced reader. Narrating the legend of a man that dared to rise above his class with whatever he could in order to impress a vapid socialite is heartbreaking. As it's been since the beginning of time, the rich really do get away with murder. The part of the novel I never understood is why no one, not even Myrtle's sister, ever outed Tom as the person having an affair with her sister. Nick never told his cousin who her husband's mistress was nor did he ever mention to Gatsby. The injustice of it all was a hard pill to swallow while reading this novel because Mystle's death needed to be resolved, at least for me, and justice be served. By Nick sharing the story later on or at least telling someone about it. But I guess the justice of this is that Daisy got the husband she deserved, a cheating, vapid man, that will continue to lie and cheat on her until death.

It is extremely hard to read. The story is choppy and hard to follow and none of the characters are likable at all.
