The Armor of Light
By Ken Follett
- Release Date: 2023-09-26
- Genre: Historical Fiction
Description
The long-awaited sequel to A Column of Fire, The Armor of Light, heralds a new dawn for Kingsbridge, England, where progress clashes with tradition, class struggles push into every part of society, and war in Europe engulfs the entire continent and beyond.
The Spinning Jenny was invented in 1770, and with that, a new era of manufacturing and industry changed lives everywhere within a generation. A world filled with unrest wrestles for control over this new world order: A mother’s husband is killed in a work accident due to negligence; a young woman fights to fund her school for impoverished children; a well-intentioned young man unexpectedly inherits a failing business; one man ruthlessly protects his wealth no matter the cost, all the while war cries are heard from France, as Napoleon sets forth a violent master plan to become emperor of the world. As institutions are challenged and toppled in unprecedented fashion, ripples of change ricochet through our characters’ lives as they are left to reckon with the future and a world they must rebuild from the ashes of war.
Over thirty years ago, Ken Follett published his most popular novel, The Pillars of the Earth. Now, with this electrifying addition to the Kingsbridge series we are plunged into the battlefield between compassion and greed, love and hate, progress and tradition. It is through each character that we are given a new perspective to the seismic shifts that shook the world in nineteenth-century Europe.
Reviews
Woke
2By Rclark83686Weakest of the series. Author spends too much time focused on gay characters to the detriment of the story. Otherwise historically informative.Ken Follett
4By Rummy manA great addition to the trilogyArmor of Light
4By danieluniss53This is the end of the series and I am glad I read it all. It took a very long time, but worth it. I am pleased to recommend the series. Happy Reading! An excellent read!
5By JoelgaslinFollett is one of my favorites, and he delivers another terrific tale in this series.A wonderful addition to the Pillars of the Earth series
5By Fisher rocks 123Fantastic! Once again, Follet weaves the stories of his characters into a beautiful, fascinating look at history. Not the same
2By dbhinzThe entire book seemed rushed. Very little character development. And like the prequel book the last quarter of the book seemed to just a sprint to get it finished. Hard to believe the book was written by Ken. Seems like it was written by a committee with everyone throwing out ideas and trying to figure out how to work it into the story.Another masterpiece
5By bob4261Follet always seems to captivate me with his characters. Some I hate, some I love & some that frustrate me by choosing the wrong person to marry. I loved this book, and he has become my favorite contemporary author by continually writing novels that make me want more. His historical fictions are full of facts that I had never learned previously, and compel me to research historical records to confirm that he has indeed done his homework. This one is 5 stars for my reading taste.Fabulous!
5By LoriBierlingFabulous… period. I’m so sad this series is done!Long winded
2By SusanP62I normally love Ken Follett novels but this one was very tedious and I struggled to finish it.Satan gives it five stars

4By dooneen…never fails to tell a tale that could be told in 400 pages in about 800 pages. He does, however, write beautifully.Great read!
