A couple inherits an apartment with a spine-tingling past in this unputdownable thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six.
Rosie and Chad Lowan are barely making ends meet in New York City when they receive life-changing news: Chad’s late uncle has left them his luxury apartment at the historic Windermere in glamorous Murray Hill. With its prewar elegance and impeccably uniformed doorman, the building is the epitome of old New York charm. One would almost never suspect the dark history lurking behind its perfectly maintained facade.
At first, the building and its eclectic tenants couldn’t feel more welcoming. But as the Lowans settle into their new home, Rosie starts to suspect that there’s more to the Windermere than meets the eye. Why is the doorman ever-present? Why are there cameras everywhere? And why have so many gruesome crimes occurred there throughout the years? When one of the neighbors turns up dead, Rosie must get to the truth about the Windermere before she, too, falls under its dangerous spell.

Reviews
Good Read
4By KittyNess<3Some parts were hard to get through. But towards the middle to end it picks up. Was not expecting the ending! Would recommendGreat Read, But is the Homage Derivative?
4By FastprofIf Ms. Unger reads this review, I am not really making a negative comment. I really enjoyed this story. It was creepy and well thought out. But everyone including the author claims that it was a homage to Rosemary’s Baby. My cynical take is that it borrowed heavily from the creepy apartment building, old couple neighbors including their collaborating friends, suicides from the building’s roof, drugged soup (OK it was mousse in RB), to the inevitable handsome scheming husband (was there ever a handsome husband who was not scheming in today’s novels?). But no matter. Because Ms. Unger took these tropes and used them well. I was on the edge of my seat throughout.Love haunted buildings

5By SuzannaAwadThe writing felt so real, I could see the story unfolding before my eyes. I’m terrified of heights and reading the rooftop scene had my hands sweating. I read this in 2 days, highly recommendSuspense from the beginning!
5By CsunsuzqI was spellbound from the start of this story! Usually stories start out slow learning the different characters but Lisa Unger had me at the Overture!!! The twists and turns in the story are continual throughout the book. She has easily become one of my favorite authors!!! I’m looking forward to reading her other booksGreat ending
4By Beverley Miller0706Keep in mind this book is longer than most of the 300-400 page books I normally read. With that said, it was a very slow start. Once the climax came it was GREAT!! Twists and turns that had my jaw dropping. I ended the book extremely satisfied. Don’t let the slow start stop you.Loved it

5By Z2671Throughout the story I felt like there were references to other authors and stories. And lo and behold the epilogue confirms my feelings. Very well written, would recommend to anyone and I’ll be looking for more The Hollows seems to be a recurring reference in these stories, perhaps that’s why I kept thinking of Steven King throughout— The Shining was one, I think Christine was anotherFabulous Read
