Description
Victorian London: For five years, Charlotte (Charlie) Holloway has lived as a boy in the slums. But when one theft too many gets her arrested, her only means of escape lies with a dead man. Charlie hasn't raised a spirit since she first discovered she could do so five years ago. That time, her father banished her. This time, she brings even more trouble upon herself.
People are now hunting Charlie all over London, but only one man succeeds in capturing her.
Lincoln Fitzroy is the mysterious head of a secret organization on the trail of a madman who needs a necromancer to control his newly "made" creatures. There was only one known necromancer in the world - Charlotte - but now there appears to be two. Lincoln captures the willful Charlie in the hopes the boy will lead him to Charlotte. But what happens when he discovers the boy is in fact the young woman he's been searching for all along? And will she agree to work for the man who held her against her will, and for an organization she doesn't trust?
Because Lincoln and his ministry might be just as dangerous as the madman they're hunting.

3By aliascjcookDecent just not great.Exciting, Fun, maybe inappropriate?
4By DyanasaurI really enjoyed this story! That first chapter really started this off thrilling, scary, dirty, and supernatural but it lightens up a big chunk in the middle. And the end really fizzles out just to set up the next book. Spoiler: I’m not sure how I feel about an 18 y.o. and 30 y.o. Will they/won’t they love tension. As a 33 year old, its hard for me to fathom that dynamic but it was fun to read. Looking forward to the development and growth of our main character in the next book.Er…
2By SendMeBookRecosI wanted to like this book and I tried really hard to. I was, in fact, enjoying it quite a bit but with each chapter the writer made me question more and more whether they actually liked the characters they were writing or if they hated them. Spoilers below Strong female lead turned into wilting damsel in distress? Broody mysterious male lead just a bully and kind of a stupid pseudo-detective? Above all though what really got me was WHAM Frankenstein out of nowhere. You read that correctly. Maybe the author thinks they laid the groundwork there but it really took the story from an interesting concept to a rushed overdone trope for me. DNF.Entertaining, somewhat predictable
5By Kaia1991Charlie was an engaging heroine and the book moved quickly. The romantic plot and denouement were both a bit predictable, but the heroine was likable enough that those flaws could be overlooked.Loved it - read it in a day
5By Foryst55Someone commented that it was disappointing because he/she enjoyed it enough that they now needed to spend money to continue the story. I didn’t even realize it was free, so thank you to the reviewer. I think it was fantastic, and already gladly purchased book 2 for a whopping $2.99. I would have paid more.Nora Williamson

5By wsdeubThis book holds my very interest in fantasy mystery. I chose to read this book on the hopes of achieving my daily reading goals. Surprisingly, I couldn’t stop reading the book. I finished reading the book after few hours. The storyline line was engrossing. I was totally immersed in the book. Trust me this book is a must read!. Unfortunately, only Book 1 was free and after reading, it drives you with urges to buy and read the the other 10 parts of the book. Sadly, I don’t have $4.99 for each other part of the book.Thrilling!!! Love it!!!
