Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.
Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ’n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.
Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.
Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.
The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.
Reviews
Interesting story
4By kaydeeNYCI almost quit after first few chapters because the story was being told from so many people’s point of view that it was confusing until you got to know the characters better. Also the amount of drugs being taken was insane. I’m glad I stuck with it because it was a good story in the end.Great book!
5By IISAFIIGRead it in 3 days. Amazing ending.Wow
5By Marti TimmerThis is one of the best books I’ve read in a while. It hooked me from the beginning! I had a hard time putting it down.Daisy Jones
4By F as in terribleOffers a realistic insight to the world of rock bands, their extremes, the highs and the lows.unreadable
2By Whim1954Kept reading hoping for the “inside “ story of what a rock band was like in the 70s and 80s…you know, sex, drugs and rock n roll. Never got there. Maybe the movie’s better.Star struck 🤩
5By WardhaaaaI read this book within 24 hours, I am so in love with the characters, I absolutely adore the talent of Taylor Jenkins with the making of her characters and writing styles!!Enjoyable
4By MaryssaLThe layout of the book took a little while to acclimate to but after a while it was fine. Story was great felt like I was watching a VH1 behind the scenes. I’m almost scared to watch the series because they are never better than the book. Loved the underline sexual tense between the characters and how you are secretly rooting for them yet understand the moral dilemma. Finally I felt like it just kinda ended like BOOM done. A pretty hurried finish I kinda wanted a little more which I guess is a good thing. Definitely an enjoyable read.Entretenido
3By ružnoSúper entretenido, diferente formato. Buena historia, pero no fue súper wow. Bueno plot al final :) 3.5 Ahora toca verse la serie, estoy emocionada.IN LOVE
5By ashleeisurmomThis book was full of emotional attachments to several parts in several characters stories. I found myself laughing out loud, and tearing up, and throwing my phone at the couch when scenes made me angry. This book was different than any I’ve read, but I loved it. I recommend it to anyone looking for a good read. I’m very busy, so it took me a while to get through. However, it was really easy to pick back up when I had time. The writing was brilliant. I want to give the author a hug LOL.TJR does it again!
4By adip2017Somewhere between a 4 and a 5. I love TJR for the simplicity of her writing while always maintaining a captivating storyline. I felt like this book kept stringing me along but in the best way. A romance that breaks your heart. I loved the incorporation and the song lyrics at the end. This melted my heart!Loved the movie, not the book.
3By AXQVEDOI read the book before I watched the movie. I really wanted to love this book but I couldn’t. It was an easy read, but I felt like the story lacked that something I couldn’t quite put into words. Despite this, I decided to go ahead and watch the movie anyway. I was pleasantly surprised to see the creative liberties taken that filled in the gaps of the book where a little something was left to be desired. Whoever wrote that screenplay, really understood what was missing from the book and made the story so much better.I like it!
3By emory mcclardI love the way TJR writes, the twist was familiar but a surprise nonetheless. It reads quickly and tells a Hollywood story uniquely. Interesting subject matter, but themes I generally don’t agree with. I enjoyed reading it.PLEASE READ PLEASE READ PLEASE READ
5By QueenTessaOfHappinessThis book is ALL THAT. it’s amazing. It’s in depth, it’s gutsy, it’s funny, it’s GUT WRENCHING SADNESS, it’s surprising (juicy plot twist btw) and entertaining, it’s rock n roll. I’ve never been a “yay 70s” kinda girl, but this book CHANGED me. I will now scour the library shelves for more 1970s-based books. It was that good. It’s in an interview format, which is super cool and great because it shows you all of the character’s perspectives and shines lights on their flaws and thought processes. If you’re considering reading this, please put down your phone right now and read it, iTS THAT GOOD. Ms. Taylor knows what she’s doing.enjoyable and easy to read.
4By j_rogers007I thought this was a perfect book for reading on the beach.Huge fan, but…..
2By little freepStruggled with the “interview style” format, and after 200+ pages, called it quits. Not sure why the entire book was written like this, regardless, did not enjoy,in love.
4By unknown101888absolutely loved this book sooo much.Great read!
5By GrrrimmI enjoyed it!Book was written terribly
1By Hendy_Tendy97Was very hard to get through I didn’t like how it was written and there was just nothing exciting about it.Good but not great!
3By MelblevsTJR is my new favorite writer. I love her style. I love her story telling. You can tell she put a great deal of research into the music industry to make it feel real. I would have given it 4 stars, however, my ADHD brain could NOT get behind the interview style writing. It almost gave me a headache. Others love it though! I did also just come from reading Seven Husbands which I gave 5 stars so I think this book had a lot to live up to. I also don’t LOVE how it ended. There was so much built up tension and craziness that the way it ended felt anti climatic. All in all. Would recommend to a friend. Can’t wait to compare to the show.
