"[Shari Lapena is] the queen of the one-sit read" —Linwood Barclay
A long-ago accident—and a visitor from out of the blue. . .
Stephanie and Patrick are adjusting to life with their colicky twin girls. The babies are a handful, but even as Stephanie struggles with the disorientation of sleep deprivation, there's one thing she's sure of: she has all she ever wanted.
Then Erica, a woman from Patrick's past, appears and makes a disturbing accusation. Patrick had always said his first wife's death was an accident, but now Erica claims it was murder.
Patrick insists he's innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. Still, Erica knows things about Patrick--things that make Stephanie begin to question her husband. Stephanie isn't sure what, or who, to believe. As Stephanie's trust in Patrick begins to falter, Patrick stands to lose everything. Is Patrick telling the truth--is Erica the persuasive liar Patrick says she is? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake?
How will it end?

Couldn’t put it down
5By hack factLots of character development and twists. It was a great book. My only complaint is the ending was a bit abrupt. What a page turner!
5By SquidgymomThis may be my favorite Lapena book yet. It has you guessing about who is telling the truth, and when you know, it has you hoping the guilty will get their due. I am happy to say it has a happy ending. Am I a terrible person for hoping so? Probably! Not worth the time
1By MalcapsSo repetitive, this book could have been thirty pages and told the same story. Would not recommend.Good book
4By AShelley2022It was very good not great towards the end it gets more of a page turnerBoring and predictable
2By PhishSkinsSo overdone and predictable. The plot was like a stale joke. 2 stars for the first 10 chapters then it got so repetitive and forced.Mind Racing
5By KlcMarieVircigWow. Just wow! Love the twists and the different point of views. Makes for a very interesting read! The end of each chapter keeps you wanting more.Suspenseful and Believable
5By Bodhiboy65A real twisty page turner that’s impossible to put down.Almost 5 stars
4By Cat TDI would have rated this a 5, but the lack of credibility in a couple of the legal scenes bothered me. Spoiler!!!!! No attorney would ask a witness a three part question like Lange asked Erica on the stand. Also, the polygraph examiner would not let other people in the room. Other than that, I liked the twists and turns of the book and the unsettling ending.Speed read
4By ljpb20162019If you need a fast paced book here’s a good oneYou won’t put this book down
5By carolineirvShari Lapena strikes again! She is a master of weaving and intertwining characters, flowing effortlessly in past and present… The evil Erika, poor unlucky Patrick and the unsuspecting Stephanie are all in quite a predicament… you won’t be able to put this one down.
