Description
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Diana Gabaldon returns with the “vast and sweeping” (The Washington Post) newest novel in the epic Outlander series.
War leaves nobody alone. Neither the past, the present, nor the future offers true safety, and the only refuge is what you can protect: your family, your friends, your home.
Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall were torn apart by the Jacobite Rising in 1746, and it took them twenty years of loss and heartbreak to find each other again. Now it’s 1779, and Claire and Jamie are finally reunited with their daughter, Brianna, her husband, Roger, and their children, and are rebuilding their home on Fraser’s Ridge—a fortress that may shelter them against the winds of war as well as weather.
But tensions in the Colonies are great: Battles rage from New York to Georgia and, even in the mountains of the backcountry, feelings run hot enough to boil Hell’s teakettle. Jamie knows that loyalties among his tenants are split and it won’t be long before the war is on his doorstep.
Brianna and Roger have their own worry: that the dangers that provoked their escape from the twentieth century might catch up to them. Sometimes they question whether risking the perils of the 1700s—among them disease, starvation, and an impending war—was indeed the safer choice for their family.
Not so far away, young William Ransom is coming to terms with the mysteries of his identity, his future, and the family he’s never known. His erstwhile father, Lord John Grey, has reconciliations to make and dangers to meet on his son’s behalf and on his own, and far to the north, Young Ian Murray fights his own battle between past and future, and the two women he’s loved.
Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War creeps ever closer to Fraser’s Ridge. Jamie sharpens his sword, while Claire whets her surgeon’s blade: It is a time for steel.
Reviews
Such a treat
5By JlongviewI grieved when I realized that I had finished this. I reread the entire series before starting this and it definitely was worth the wait. According to Diana’s website book 10 is in process.Excellent storytelling
5By @KaraTuneAnother fantastic novel from Diana Gabaldon featuring my favorite characters! I only hope the wait for the next in the series won’t be too long… till then, I will keep rewatching and rereading whenever I feel the need for more James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser!Jesus H Roosevelt Ch…
5By VenessaL47True, it reads a bit slower than the previous books but I still found it very enjoyable. Don’t let the negative reviews dissuade you. If you’re a fan of the characters and love to escape into their world, you’ll enjoy this one too!Hardest of all Outlander novels to read.
4By Catwoman1010Struggled to read this one compared to the rest. So much description with not much action. Not how I normally like. Usually I love the descriptions but felt this was like treading water. Still a must for Outlander readers.Go Tell the Bees
1By ShesieRead all of the Outlander series and I found this one to be boring. Plodded thru it.Terrible Writer - Very Overrated
1By Kate Dislikes This WriterMs. Gabaldon is an awful writer. She started out okay, but things started to devolve with Fiery Cross, and spiraled down from there. Long, drawn out explanations make you say, “blah, blah, blah, get on with it!” Characters are interesting and you care about them, with the exception of Claire. She’s a woman from the 60’s. When would she ever say, forsooth? Did she suddenly become a Shakespearean actor? Just a couple examples of my disappointment. During press junkets, it’s apparent Ms. Gabaldon is very high on herself. Did she start out humble, and grateful for the fans who made her rich? She sure isn’t any longer and she talks with a holier than thou tone. My opinions, of course. And I’ll read through the last book to conclusion because I am involved with most of the characters but as for the writing itself, very disappointing.Super boring. Nothing like the previous books in the series.
1By nicolegdaI was looking forward to reading this but the plot was so boring it took me months to finally finish. When the plot starts to get more interesting, the book suddenly ends. I would give it 0 stars.Go Tell the Bees I am Gone
5By martinbtwoBrilliance again. Is there anyone as compelling as Diana Gabaldon. I can’t wait for the next one! This book has something missing.
2By Beep bop 201I loved reading about all the characters i have loved over the years. However the first half of the book felt too much a like a recap. Frankly I started questioning who wrote the book and whether or not it was the actual author or someone standing in for her. When a story was finally starting to form, the book ended. Compared to the rest of the books in the series, this one was a disappointment and a dud. 2 stars bc I love the series otherwise i never would have finished it. Let alone bothered with a review.Beautifully written!
5By DCMMDEngaging, intelligent and vibrant.Boring
1By Heather7936This is another daily life book. Which is not the most interesting.Go tell the bees I am gone
5By DuchnvflLoved loved this book. I tried to make it last - 1921 pages - but the end finally had to come. Now onto the Clanlands Almanac by Jamie and Dougal!Excellent As Expected
4By MontanaGisMeI very much enjoyed this book, despite reading it slowly, savoring each page, knowing it would be a while until the next one. The stories are a continuum from past books, filling in and filling out the family and friends Fraser. So disappointed….
2By zbohlLet me start by saying I LOVE the Outlander series. These books drew me in and I couldn’t get enough and I was so excited for the new book. And then with all anticipation I started Bee’s and I was so disappointed! The entire book is thousands of pages of a review of all the other books, with very little to offer for a new story line. Kinda of a waste of time. It’s not until the last sentence that we get that Outlander “jolt”. So now we wait. We wait and hope there is a 10th book. And my hope is that Diana comes back with a novel that reminds us of why we fell in love with her work and her characters to begin with. I have faith…but as for this book…I wish there had been more to grab on to.Excellent Read
5By Simpleton777As always Diana Gabladon is one of the best authors I have ever read. When asked for recommendations I always suggest her. This was an excellent read. I always feel as if I’m there with all the characters.Maybe it was just me…
2By LAZMHI have loved every book in the Outlander series - “Go Tell the Bees” is the first exception. I am invested in these characters and anxiously awaited the continuation of their story, but found this to be a very slow read due, in part, to exceptionally lengthy divergences into history that so drastically slowed the story’s pace it was hard, at times, to continue. Usually I devour these books in days…this one took several weeks. Maybe it was just me and not the right story for me at this time.Go tell the bees that I am gone
4By Claud DukeI want more!!!!Delightful adventure
5By LakesideliteratureDiana Gabaldon does not disappoint. As usual with this series I have trouble putting it down. Hurry and finish the next book!Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone
1By NicknameGoesHere32One of the worst books I’ve ever read. It’s disjointed and she skips over all the difficult scenarios by adding time jumps. It’s like she wrote a bunch different ideas at different times and tried to stitch them together in the most nonsensical way. 10/10 would NOT recommend. If you’ve invested too much time into this series like I have, you’re better off just skipping this book and writing your own in your head.
