Description

Whose truth is the lie?

Stay up all night reading the sensational psychological thriller that has readers obsessed—the inspiration for the major motion picture starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson—from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Too Late and It Ends With Us.

#1 New York Times Bestseller · USA Today Bestseller · Globe and Mail Bestseller · Publishers Weekly Bestseller

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started.

What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read—page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of the night her family was forever altered. Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents could devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words.

After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue loving her.

“Sublimely creepy with a true Hoover pulse. I’ve been waiting for a thriller like this for years.” —Tarryn Fisher, New York Times bestselling author of The Wrong Family

Riveting and unexpected. Impossible to put down.” —Claire Contreras, New York Times bestselling author of Until I Get You

I couldn’t put this book down! So many unexpected twists and Colleen has a way of writing that you feel like you are in the same room as the characters.

Was I entertained? Yes. Did I enjoy myself? …I guess 😑 The premise is juicy and bingeable, and the twists definitely keep you reading. But Lowen… oh, Lowen. So cringe. Major pick me energy. Her internal monologue had me sighing loudly at my book more than once. The tension builds and builds, especially romantically, and for what? The payoff was dry. I wasn’t even here for the naughty scenes (I’m a respectable suburban mom after all), but if you’re going to drag it out that long, at least make it worth the wait. The manuscript sections were the real page turners. But let me tell you something, if I stumbled upon that level of chisme in real life, I’m not pacing myself. Everyone leave me alone because I’m reading the whole thing immediately. Unrealistic? Sure. Addictive? Absolutely. Honestly, the most talented person in this book was Verity. The acting. The manipulation. The commitment. Girl was putting in work while everyone else was distracted and trying to bump uglies. I was entertained, but I’m not impressed. And lastly: I hope you never sleep again, Lowen. And you either, Jeremy. You nasties!

You’ll be on the edge of your seat reading every page! It’s almost like you are watching a movie, the suspense and intrigue to know whats true and what else will happen, won’t let you put the book down.

Oh boy, this one had me TEARING through the pages at some parts, and absolutely TERRIFIED to turn the page at other points! An all around fantastic read that leaves you guessing who is the victor? The villain? The victim? Highly recommend!

The mystery and intrigue is set up from the start of this novel and takes you on a ride all the way until its explosive conclusion. The sexual scenes felt a bit over the top and forced as if the author was trying to shoehorn a romance novel into this thriller, but overall the book had great pacing and build.
