Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
Jane Austen’s beloved classic opens with this witty and very memorable line: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” With all the twists and turns of a soap opera, Pride and Prejudice chronicles the drama that ensues when the wealthy bachelor Mr. Darcy moves close to the Bennet family home in the English countryside. The news of his arrival sends the socially ambitious Mrs. Bennet-whose main concern is finding suitable matches for her five daughters-into overdrive.
The book’s main character, the high-spirited Elizabeth Bennet, is a strikingly modern heroine: a woman who refuses to lower her expectations or transform herself to suit society’s norms. Austen’s novel achieves a remarkable balance, serving up barbed criticism of the obsession with money, status, and matrimony even as it draws us into a swoon-worthy love story. At its heart, Pride and Prejudice is a romantic comedy, and a darned great one at that. It’s so much fun to turn the pages and wonder about Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy: Will they or won’t they overcome their excessive pride and initial prejudices to make a happily-ever-after connection?

Pride and Prejudice
3By S1llySueLittle boring, but I understand that that was how literature was written at the time and recognize Jane Austen’s talent. It’s a book!

3By ceskadianaI enjoyed watching Pride & Prejudice in the BBC series and in film, but Austen’s writing style was difficult to read. She gave some of her characters very long diatribes to recite, which were difficult to comprehend, due to her use of archaic English, and very complicated terminology. Many times I had difficulty following which character was speaking, since she rarely told us who was the speaker. I plowed through to the end, to see if her ending was better than the film and BBC ones, and I was disappointed that her ending was so blah. If this is her best work, I will never read any of her other ones.Me and my mom’s favorite!

4By Library_DaveI enjoyed this because it is written in a style that is not used very much anymore. The story progresses mainly through dialogue rather than descriptions. There were a few times that I had to reread a section due to antiquated sentence structure.5/5
5By Dylan MTThis book is truly beautiful. Originally, it took me a while to actually sacrifice my leisure, but it was all worth it. Every single character meant so much to me, because they all had different dispositions that fit together like a puzzle piece. I love the way that most of the characters are dynamic, and how they changed over time. There is not a thing I would change about this book, and would recommend it to a great degree.Wonderful book😍❤️❤️💕
5By soph23498It is such a great book one reason I like it is because it has my middle name in it Elizabeth and she sound just like mePerfect
5By DanM333This is the first novel I’ve ever read in English and it happened to be a perfect choice for the first book after newsfeeds and compulsive doomscrolling. Light subtle humour and short chapters gave me a good hand in navigating through the story. It is magnificent in its form and content, but makes even more sense if the reader precedes it with making acquaintance of the authors biography or watching the recent bbc movie about her, which is also good. The context will help to see many curious things left hidden under the water. Thanks to the AppStore for letting me read this at their charge.yay

5By loyaljaniteThis is probably my fourth or fifth rereading of Pride and Prejudice and it never fails to delight. Each time I find chapters that I hadn’t really read in depth before. And so I can marvel once again at the skill of the author in characterization, language, plotting…everything. Thank you Jane. Again.Wow
5By CatloversassociationExcellentIt’s a classic for good reason!
5By Jaynee @It kept my attention throughout- loving the characters, hating the characters and feeling everything the author wanted me to feel! I loved it!!!Phenomenal
5By Kmj1953I’m an old man who mostly reads history, apart from an obsession with Twain, Dickens and Hugo. But I consider the 1995 miniseries version of “Pride and Prejudice,” with its brilliant cast, one of the best TV productions ever. So I finally got around to reading the book. Amazing. Hilarious and beautifully written, with irresistibly short chapters. Couldn’t put it down. For anyone who likes the romantic style, this is as good as it gets. Why did I wait so long?Romance
