- Genre: Romance
Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
Jane Austen’s first published novel is a sparkling, heartfelt tale of family, friendship, and changes of the heart.
Elinor Dashwood is the voice of reason. Her sister, Marianne, is impulsive and emotionally reactive. When their family loses its fortune, they have to trade a grand estate for a quiet cottage and step into an unpredictable new world of love, gossip, and heartbreak.
One guards her heart, the other dives in feelings-first. As secrets surface and affections are tested, both discover that reason and passion together might be the perfect combination. Sharp, funny, and romantic, Sense and Sensibility captures Austen’s keen eye for love in all its messy forms.
Reviews
One of the best
5By Jjacks12One of the best Austen books. The depth of the emotions and experiences of the characters are relatable today. I love this story.Sentiments Hold True
5By geekswife08A timeless reflection on society, relationships, and expectations.I don’t know
2By Anama8504I have read other Jane Austin books, and I have loved them, I like her writing style and the stories she portrays, but I got bored with this book and honestly I could not finish it.Not as good as Pride & Prejudice
3By kindra reaTook me a while to get through because there were several boring parts... did not end how I expected it, so that was interesting, but still not as enchanting as P&P.Sense and Sensibility
4By Ko_ToriiiHad a sort of ehhh ending but I loved how different Elinor and Marianne were!!Austen’s Best
5By KansasBookLoverExciting, interesting. But also very plausible and provides more insight into the character of the villains.Sensible
5By lovinthisbook❤️📚This book really held my interest, and I became especially intrigued when I learned that Willoughby and Edward were double players. An excellent read.Very Happy with the Ending!
5By BlackRose0924I’m so glad that they triumphed through so many hardships to get what they deserved. I observe Marianne as one who was too finicky to truly deserve anything, but I think through her elder sister’s experience and behaviour, how to act accordingly, and Elinor finally got to show some real sensitivity when speaking to her sister’s former suitor. This book brought upon me many feelings of poignancy but at the same time bliss for the happiness of the characters.Complaining
1By Choices of oneMost of the book was spent reading about all the complaints of the main characters. I listen to enough complaints in my life without having to read about it for most of the book. The Dashwood Sisters Find Their Beaus
4By GADawnI did grasp the concept of keeping emotions in check (having good social sense) and behaving in a way in private so that futures could have a chance (sensibility). I enjoyed the book and the idea of romance and future life being a dominant feature of a young lady’s life. However, the characters of Willoughby and Robert were somewhat cloaked in mystery to me. Willoughby’s painful explanation to Elinor toward the end of the book of his poor treatment of her sister Marianne did not seem plausible. And certainly Robert rushing and marrying Lucy after his brother was ostracized from the family for being engaged to Lucy is unexplainable. But, those are the ways of love and marriage. It was good to see Elinor happily married to her Edward, and Marianne to Colonel Brandon.👍🏻👍🏻
5By True ReadsVery well written, and very similar to Sense and Sensibility.
