Description
NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A poignant and tender story of love, loss, passion, and the fragile threads that bind families together from the author of The Nightingale.
“A beautifully simple, deeply compassionate story.”—Diana Gabaldon
Annie Colwater's only child has just left home for school abroad. On that same day, her husband of twenty years confesses that he's in love with a younger woman. Alone in the house that is no longer a home, Annie comes to the painful realization that for years she has been slowly disappearing. Lonely and afraid, she retreats to Mystic, the small Washington town where she grew up, hoping that there she can reclaim the woman she once was—the woman she is now desperate to become again.
In Mystic, she is reunited with her first love, Nick Delacroix, a recent widower unable to cope with his grieving, too-silent six-year-old daughter, Izzie. Together, the three of them begin to heal, and, at last, Annie learns that she can love without losing herself. But just when she has found a second chance at happiness, her life is turned upside down again, and Annie must make a choice no woman should have to make. . . .

Reviews
Great book!!!
5By CindyM2023The minute I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. I was in tears for Annie, Nick, Izzy and even Blake at the end. I’ve enjoyed every Kristin Hannah book I’ve ever read and this one did not disappoint. So much detail throughout the book and then
3By jrmttxVery abrupt ending. Terrible ending.Too sappy for me
1By ? Not sureIt was too much like a Hallmark movie after reading 2 of her other books with historical fiction that I loved.Loved the story
5By jillhardy2The transition between separate ideas and paragraphs was a bit off for Hannah. Maybe the editing? Regardless, I enjoyed the story but it needed to be tightened up a bit. Put *** between paragraphs to make the story flow better.A Harlequin Romance
2By CarefreegalThIs book reads like a Harlequin romance. I can’t believe Kristin Hannah actually wrote this.Loved It!
5By Hskr girlAnother great read from Hannah!Don’t bother
1By KarlattaloveWhat was the author thinking? This was trite, predictable and boring.Profound
5By Barbs Sweet PeaWritten here There are lessons to be learned by so many kind, selfless women in the world. Beautiful story and so full of true love and courage.Great book
5By AaabmGreat book. Enjoyed reading itExcellent read
5By momomo17777Another great book by Kristin Hannah. It’s amazing how Kristin has managed to create such a beautiful image of Annie. It’s a skill Kristin Hannah has and I love it! I also love Natalie/Nana’s personality. Kind of the Mirror that helped Annie find herself/recognize that she should not settle down for less than she deserves. Blake is a successful lawyer, but he is not good at showing his love/appreciating Annie. Nick, an old-time friend and who has just lost his wife, finds hope in Annie. An outstanding novel-I definitely recommend. Morton Rowling, author
