FROM THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF BIG LITTLE LIES AND HERE ONE MOMENT

A “sharp and funny romantic tale.”—O, the Oprah Magazine

Ellen O’Farrell is a professional hypnotherapist who works out of the eccentric beachfront home she inherited from her grandparents. It’s a nice life, except for her tumultuous relationship history. She’s stoic about it, but at this point, Ellen wouldn’t mind a lasting one. When she meets Patrick, she’s optimistic. He’s attractive, single, employed, and best of all, he seems to like her back. Then comes that dreaded moment: He thinks they should have a talk.

Braced for the worst, Ellen is pleasantly surprised. It turns out that Patrick’s ex-girlfriend is stalking him. Ellen thinks, Actually, that’s kind of interesting. She’s dating someone worth stalking. She’s intrigued by the woman’s motives. In fact, she’d even love to meet her.

Ellen doesn’t know it, but she already has.

The characters were two dimensional. I’ve read several books by this author and they are starting to feel very formulaic. I don’t think I will read more of her work.

This was such an interesting and thoughtful story, and such a page turner! I enjoyed it immensely, it’s the kind of book that makes you sad you’ve finished it!

Always a good read with Lliane Moriarity.

This author has a way of coming up with great plots, realistic settings, but draaaaaaaaags the story out to the point of making you want to skip entire pages. While I prefer longer books as opposed to short stories, it feels as if she’s just adding things for the sake of lengthening her stories.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was good, but it was surprisingly funny. I found myself laughing out loud sometimes.
  • Good but not great.

Not like her other books at all. I kept waiting for the major plot twist and then I realized it wasn’t going to happen.
  • Rodiculous

While the writing is engaging and fine- the plot line is ridiculous and monotonous. This book is so long to not get to the point. I don’t want to ruin it if you are a big fan of the author but this book starts off with an interesting premise but then really gets silly with the relationship with the stalker and the new girlfriend. It is a cheap read and as I said the writing is pretty good but I’m bored and I’m only 2/3.

Outstanding book! I loved reading this, and loved the main character, Ellen. It was especially entertaining and enlightening to see the thinking of the stalker. To read the same events from two completely different perspectives -- one healthy and one unhealthy -- was really clever. I wish there were more people like Ellen in the world! Enjoyed this book immensely!

With her astounding ability to get into the g Hearts and minds of her characters, Moriarty leads us to conclude that each of us has dark and light within us, and all of us deserve redemption. The Hypnotist's Love Story was a fascinating look at how things can be very different from how they first appear.
  • Intriguing!

A very intriguing story indeed about an over-analyzing hypnotist, her love story with her boyfriend who comes attached with a stalker. I have to say that the author did a great job in getting into the mindset of her characters and while you feel angry with the boyfriend and his stalker, at the end I found that I really empathized with how she felt. All the characters develop nicely in the story and come to terms with their fears and create new lives for themselves.
  • Great read wonderful writing
