I haven’t read this much in a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed the book, and though it was lengthier than the movie in its content, it was tense throughout. Going into it for the first time had me surprised at how different it is from how the movie turned out.
  • First Time Reading It...

It’s wild how much all the Jurassic Park sequels ended up pulling from just this one book. And honestly, the first movie feels so straightforward compared to this - in a good, refreshing way. The book had twists that really caught me off guard, like certain character deaths and who actually made it out alive. Definitely a page-turner. Shame it took me so long to finally read it!
  • Grew up with the movies. Finally read the book!

Whoa. As someone who does not read often, I was surprised at how quickly I became immersed by this book. Crichton does a great job of utilizes illustrations of computer graphs and screens in key parts. I felt like I was looking over Dr. Grants shoulder, learning about these creatures in real time. The story we all know and love takes a while to get started. The characters from the movie don’t get introduced till a third of the way in- persevere though! Once everything starts falling apart, it definitely gets exciting. 10/10

Modern classic for a reason. First time rereading in almost 30 years and it was still a thrilling experience.
  • Only saw the movie

Went into this having only seen the movie and I am astounded at how different it is from this book. The movie heavily focuses on dinosaurs and I loved it as a kid but this book is about the hubris of man in trying to control and tame nature. Technology advances that haven’t improved quality of life for people, yet we laud them as our saviors. Living in the shadow of AI, this message rings especially true in today’s day and age. Truly excellent I highly recommend.

While the book might be a little detail heavy in parts, the story was incredible. As a long time fan of the movies, reading this book gave me a new appreciation for parts that weren’t fully explained. The story is vastly different from the movie, and worth a read. If you are a fan, you will like this book!

Upon revisiting this book at the age of 31, I was struck by its enduring relevance. The author’s masterful storytelling and profound exploration of complex themes make it a timeless classic. While Michael Crichton’s writing predates many of the scientific concepts discussed in the book, such as chaos theory and the influence of genetics on modern science, the characters’ insightful perspectives remain pertinent today. The book prompts contemplation on the ethical implications of technological advancements and scientific progress. In contrast to the film adaptation, the book’s graphic depiction of violence and gore is far more intense, leaving the reader with a sense of unease and curiosity about how certain scenes would have been portrayed on screen. Crichton’s exceptional ability to captivate the reader’s attention and imagination is evident throughout the narrative. The inclusion of dinosaur elements in the book is highly satisfying, evoking a sense of wonder and curiosity. The author’s vivid descriptions transport the reader to a prehistoric world, leaving them yearning for more. I intend to read his next work of literature titled,“The Lost World” to explore the author’s further exploration of dinosaurs and their impact on human life within the Jurassic Park universe! This book is highly recommended for enthusiasts of dinosaurs and science fiction, as well as anyone seeking an engaging and imaginative read that transcends the limitations of television.

I was a big fan of the movie but the book was a social commentary about the dangers of entrepreneurial endeavors utilizing cutting edge scientific discoveries.

This is so cool better than the Jurassic Park movies. It’s the detail that Michael Creighton puts in and the imagination comes to life just a blast

After thinking about this for a little while, the book is so much better than the movie. Due to emerging tech, the fact that Jurassic Park was possible is a feat that will always remembered, but the book is so good. There’s a big biotech angle, so prepare for that, but it’s so good. It’s a must read.

Great book. I don’t like the lizards though! They’re creepy. And mean!! And too smart; babies-at night-I thought they were just biting?!??!!? Now they’re eating?!?!!!!?! But anyways I haven’t actually finished the book yet, I’ll update this when I do!
  • Absolutely worth it!

This book completely captures the love and fear of these creatures on the island and my imagination was completely blown away; especially for a fan of the movie series like myself. Definitely recommend for a fellow reader with an appreciation for the series or a drive for these creatures.

I'm not an avid reader, but I killed this book in about 10 sittings. I'd read it for hours! Personally, I even thinj if you have watched the movie first, and then you read the novel, you'll like the novel so much more! The way that Michael Crichton describes and fills you in on the general science of paleontology is a great part of the momentum of the story!
  • A masterpiece!
