Description

Cindy and Mattheus, finally together, prepare to take time off and live together—when a stunning upset in their relationship tears them apart. Cindy flies home to New York, resigned to never work as a detective—and never see Mattheus—again.

And then a shocking phone call comes out of the blue: it is Mattheus. A new body has turned up. Cindy at first refuses—until he tells her who it is: his wife. They finally found her, on the shores of Key West. Brutally murdered, they suspect, by an abusive boyfriend.

Mattheus’ world is upside down, and Cindy has no choice but to fly back down to the islands and help him uncover what really happened. Why did she turn up now, after so many years? How did she turn up in Key West, so far from where he’d last seen her? Why had she never contacted him? Who was she dating? And have the police caught the right man?

Their investigation takes them deep into the underworld of Key West, a gorgeous, idyllic place where the locals gather to watch the sunset every night with an evening drink. It is an enchanting place—but as Cindy learns, it is also a place with a dark underbelly. Cindy prods deeper into the murder and her investigation takes her into the world of an abused woman’s shelter. Soon, she is convinced the police have the wrong man. She and Mattheus, thrown together again, reconsider their feelings for one another. But there may not be time: Cindy finds out too much and comes in danger herself. As the murder hits too close to home, it may be too late for them both.

DEATH BY DECEIT is both a stand-alone novel, and is also Book #5 in the Caribbean Murder series, following DEATH BY HONEYMOON (Book #1), DEATH BY DIVORCE (Book #2) and DEATH BY MARRIAGE (Book #3) and DEATH BY DESIRE (Book #4).

This was a good story with a subtle plot. There was a major problem with the editing of the book. It was as if no one bothered to even do any proof reading. Sentences were not completed, words or phrases were repeated in the same sentence, thoughts were not finished, etc. To many problems to name. This ruined a good story. I have not read any other books by this author and am not sure that I want to after reading this one. Sally New

This book was very good, and would have received more stars if not for the terrible lack of editing! The punctuation, the grammar, the word usage- all horribly wrong! Is this normal for this series? I plan to read another right away to find out. What a shame!!!

This was an interesting read. Grabbed you fairly quick and wouldn't let you go. Engaging characters and a typical murder mystery plot. It was fun.

Wonderful story with great descriptions of the scenery. The ending was quite a twist. The publication/editor/proofreader allowed too many errors in and it became distracting. Love her stories. Thank you for the entertainment.

The story was ok but poor grammar, wrong and duplicate words, and even character names substituted made the writing, editing, and publisher a joke! Not even worth the free price.
  • Can I get paid to edit this woman's work?

I honestly enjoy the books but cannot get past the errors. Misused quotes, completely wrong words ('saw' instead of 'was'), inconsistencies from the rest of the series (Cindy's hair is Auburn now? Wasn't it always blonde?)... The lack of attention to detail is annoying and distracting.

This is the second book I have read in the Jaden Skye "Death" series. The plot was good but, unfortunately, the writing was extremely sloppy. The punctuation; missed words; incorrect meanings; words in the wrong place all distracted from the story. It's as though no one proofread this book before it was published.
  • Honestly.....I'm surprised

The grammar is still just as bad as book 1 and the rest. I love the stories, and by now am used to the errors but I am truly disappointed she allows her books to be published with all these errors. You would think she'd have more pride than that. If I continue to purchase I have no one to blame but myself for spending money on books that are this poor grammatically. Due to the grammatical errors in her books I will only ever rate her books a 1 star. Going forward I will not write a review But I will only give her 1 star and that will say it all for my reviews.
  • Interesting stories, but poorly written

I enjoy the story lines, but the writing is so amateurish that it drives me crazy. My suggestion to the writer is that she hire a proof reader and get a better editor.
