Description
A war is coming, a battle that will stretch from the prehistoric forests of the ancient past to the cutting-edge research labs of today, all to reveal a true mystery buried deep within our DNA, a mystery that will leave readers changed forever . . .
In this groundbreaking masterpiece of ingenuity and intrigue that spans 50,000 years in human history, New York Times bestselling author James Rollins takes us to mankind’s next great leap.
But will it mark a new chapter in our development . . . or our extinction?
In the remote mountains of Croatia, an archaeologist makes a strange discovery: a subterranean Catholic chapel, hidden for centuries, holds the bones of a Neanderthal woman. In the same cavern system, elaborate primitive paintings tell the story of an immense battle between tribes of Neanderthals and monstrous shadowy figures. Who is this mysterious enemy depicted in these ancient drawings and what do the paintings mean?
Before any answers could be made, the investigative team is attacked, while at the same time, a bloody assault is made upon a primate research center outside of Atlanta. How are these events connected? Who is behind these attacks? The search for the truth will take Commander Gray Pierce of Sigma Force 50,000 years into the past. As he and Sigma trace the evolution of human intelligence to its true source, they will be plunged into a cataclysmic battle for the future of humanity that stretches across the globe . . . and beyond.
With the fate of our future at stake, Sigma embarks on its most harrowing odyssey ever—a breathtaking quest that will take them from ancient tunnels in Ecuador that span the breadth of South America to a millennia-old necropolis holding the bones of our ancestors. Along the way, revelations involving the lost continent of Atlantis will reveal true mysteries tied to mankind’s first steps on the moon. In the end, Gray Pierce and his team will face to their greatest threat: an ancient evil, resurrected by modern genetic science, strong enough to bring about the end of man’s dominance on this planet.
Only this time, Sigma will falter—and the world we know will change forever.

The Bone Labyrinth
5By Mt. Goat77Loved this book hard to put down can’t wait to read the next book. This was the best Sigma Force book I have read so far.Fascinating, intriguing. . .
5By gleviathanA great story. I love Rollins use of scientific facts to weave his story and it definitely does leave one thinking about our origins. I have my own personal belief about our Great Leap Forward in intelligence. Rollins never directly implies where the so-called teachers gained their knowledge. He didn’t mention the possibility of extra-terrestrial involvement. Just another theory drawn from the evidence. . .Bone Labrythin
4By OneLookoutGood bookA fun read!!
4By SciTeach3Being a science teacher and a lover of adventure, I am always excited by another Sigma novel! This was a really fun read but not absolutely the best. I do love all the science at the backbone of these novels but this go round I found a few pieces seemed to be forced and unrelated. Don't get me wrong, it was still good but the two story arcs seemed to be a stretch in how they were connected. And I am not sure why Rollins has broken up the best buddy team in the spy world as it has been so long since Grey and Monk have teamed up. But I will for sure get my copy of the next Sigma book as soon as it is released.Adventurous and compassionate
5By lindad2987This one kept me on the edge of my seat and crying at the compassion for the animals. Couldn't put it down.Fantastic!
5By Czar1980The Bone Labyrinth was the first work of fiction that has me interested in reading the publications that support the storyline. Great read front to back.Amazing!
5By BryseThis book was impossible to put down.Worth it
5By IdkreaderI usually just read free classics. I bought this book without even knowing who James Rollins is. The random gamble paid off. I don't think I've read a more complete book than this.OMG, soo good!
5By Sarah SannerHaving never read anything by James Rollins, nor this series, this book is a non stop page turner, with amazing insight, science, history and a true thought prevoking book! I plan on going back and starting from book one in this series, but it can be read alone without losing anything from the series. The Bone Labyrinth
5By Linda5225Love, loved, loved this extremely interesting story by James Rollins! He has an affinity for mixing fact and fiction together to make the most complex, intriguing stories! One of his most compelling reads yet!!Best work to date
5By Avid JR readerI've read all of JR's books to include his other series as well. This book in my opinion has by far been the best example of true story telling. It's a slight departure from his normal writing style in the way that it reads more like a Sci-fi thriller than the Sci-fi mystery. It hints in places to movies and books from the past but is uniquely its own. It can best be summed up as the da Vinci code meets the movie Congo meets the Bourne series meets the lost city of Z. If this was the first book I ever read of his I would become a fan all over. Enjoy the journey and thank you Mr. Rollins for another great adventure. The Bone Labyrinth
5By Chiron3765Rollins outdid himself. I have read every one of his books, and this one ranks at the top. Excellent!Parallels
4By ynptrailrunnerFirstly, allow me to note the parallels identified during my reading. Signing primate: Congo; jungles of South America and a lost civilization, crystal artifacts and booby traps: Indiana Jones (yes I am aware Rollins wrote one of the IJ storylines). Those aside, I enjoyed the book and the making of Kowalski more of a central character. Of course, the big guys always seem to turn out to have the biggest hearts; but a sign language expert, who woulda thunk! Look forward to the next Sigma Force adventure.Great
5By KarinaAndersonThink this is his best one yet. ThanksAwesome read

5By jazzkat25From the first sentence, “we shouldn’t be here”(13) until the very last, the reader continues to “wonder about everything” (462) in James Rollins latest novel, The Bone Labyrinth. Rollins utilizes elements of science, archaeology, history, and religion in his brilliant adventure novel that seeks to answer the mystery of the Great Leap Forward. The intricate story line also introduces readers to a gorilla named Baako, a test subject who assists geneticists; and twin sisters Lena and Maria Crandall who seek to understand human intelligence in Georgia. Meanwhile, an old cave system rich in Paleolithic fossilized remains and artifacts is discovered in Croatia. When an attack is made on this site by China, Neanderthal remains are stolen and scientists are kidnapped. Are these two separate incidences connected? How is China involved? Rollins leads the reader on a roller coaster ride unlike anything I have ever experienced before. Although I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Bone Labyrinth and meeting the novel’s diverse cast of characters, it was Baako who stole my heart. Rollins paints Baako’s nature in such an inquisitive and affectionate way that I completely forgot he was a gorilla. All I felt within my heart was Baako should be free. Therefore, by the end of the novel I was hardly surprised when I felt tears running down my face. Obviously, I commend Rollins for being the masterful storyteller he is, and for eliciting this kind of response from me. I urge one and all to read James Rollins’ The Bone Labyrinth, a truly unique novel that is as thoughtful and moving as it is a pulse-pounding rush to read. Once again, Rollins proves why his novels continue to perch at the top of the bestseller lists. Bravo! Thanks
