Description

USA TODAY BESTSELLER • In this charming Oxford Novel, hailed by Keri Ford as “a sizzling-loud friends-to-lovers story,” Lauren Layne poses a provocative question: What do you do when you fall in love with your sister’s ex?

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist for Oxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.

Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

A well thought out Love Story. Would have given 5 stars but typo errors, a hanging letter belonging nowhere. Tighter editing & proof reading would have earned a full 5⭐️.

The story definitely wasn't an original and it took forever to get interesting but my opinion is that there wasn't enough closure with the sister and it was just missing something. Jackson seemed slow when it came to women which makes no sense ... I mean come on he could have put Madison in her place a lot sooner and better than how it was written... I guess making him out to be the "good guy" was taken a bit too far.... this is a first time read with this author and I'm willing to try another book preferably Lincoln's story if there is one out there ... hopefully it's better ... thank goodness this book was .99 .. I would have been upset if it was regularly priced ...

"I Wish You Were Mine" by Lauren Layne is book two in the Oxford series. This is the story of Jackson Burke and Mollie Carrington. Jackson was the quarterback for the Texas Redhawks, married to the love of his life, and life was great. Then he was in a car accident that ruined his football career and he is now single. Jackson is now working as a columnist for Oxford magazine, but very frustrated with his life. There is one person that has always been there for him and she is his ex-wife's younger sister. Mollie and Jackson have been friends for a long time. Their friendship lasted through his divorce to her sister Madison. Mollie has always loved Jackson but never acted on her feelings. Situations play into Mollie and Jackson spending a lot of time together. Will Jackson see Mollie as a woman and not his ex-wife's sister? Will Mollie act on her attraction to Jackson? There were times in the book that I got frustrated with Jackson and Mollie. Jackson still seems to be hung up on his ex-wife who is a nasty person. Nasty doesn't even describe how bad a person she is. Even though Madison treats Mollie horribly, she feels obligated to her since she practically raised her. I enjoyed Jackson and Madison's story. The intimate scenes were steamy too! The supporting characters were great. I want to go back and read the first book in this series. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley/Random House Publishing Group for an honest review. FYI, contains mature content.

I pretty much enjoy anything this author writes. I think it is because of the way her stories flow. There is usually good dialogue between the characters and while there is some drama it is not overly done. And before you know it you are at the end. The situation between Jackson and Mollie is a little tricky. They first met at Jackson’s wedding to her sister, Madison. You could feel just a little spark between the two at that time. Mollie fell “in love with the groom” but of course she knew nothing could/would ever come of it. Fast forward a number of years. After being involved in a car accident, Jackson’s career as a quarterback with the Texas Redhawks is finished. Oh and so is his marriage. Hence his new job at the Oxford Magazine. Jackson struggles a little in his new job. He was defined by his status as a football player and to have it taken away so suddenly is hard for him to grasp. He is standoffish and doesn’t fit in with the crowd at work. Jackson offers Mollie a place to stay. He begins to really start to see how Mollie is all grown up, how sweet, beautiful and desirable she has become. But Mollie struggles with their growing romance. She doesn’t want to betray her sister, but she wants to do something for herself for a change. But what happens when Jackson finally falls for the right sister? This is another good read by Lauren Layne. I love how she is able to pull in the characters from the other books and make them an integral part of this story. You get a little peak into how things have changed for them since their stories. Perhaps we will finally get to see Lincoln’s story soon?

I’ve read this series from the beginning after really enjoying the ‘companion’ series of Sex, Love and Stilettos. Lauren Layne has a way of making you believe that the ‘in office’ romance is not only not dead, but can lead to some really wonderful things (against all advice). Full of characters who clearly enjoy one another’s company and have built solid relationships and friendship, you don’t have to be familiar with the world or the people, but you most certainly will want to discover everyone’s stories. In a bit of a twist from the ‘norm’ for these stories, this book is playing with a relatively new character in Jackson, his ex-wife Madison and her sister Mollie. With the other characters that are the focus of this series, we already have a ‘sense’ of their personalities and how they interact with the group, but Jackson is new and a bit untried. A former football player who is retired due to an accident, he’s establishing his bearings in this new group as he recovers from a contentious and scandalous divorce. Mollie was the geeky sister who was always in Madison’s shadow, and some things in their relationship have never changed. She’s always been in the background should Madison need her, waiting, ignored and underappreciated. She’s tried to help, but she also deserves a chance: one she is taking by moving to New York for her own career. Running into Jackson, someone she has always had a good relationship (although secret crush) with, he offers her a room in his Park Avenue penthouse until she finds her own place. And we’re off ….. In the years since Jackson last saw her, Mollie has grown up and appears both more confident and eye-catching. He always appreciated her sense and heart, and if truth be told, he enjoyed time with her perhaps a bit more than time with her sister, his wife. Now she is here in New York, his new friends and colleagues have accepted her, so why not? This could be a bit of a squidgy sort of relationship with the sisters and the same man, but Madison is so very wrong for Jackson (and perhaps everyone else) that her cajoling Mollie into making a reconciliation possible only highlights just how wrong she is, much to Mollie’s consternation and confusion. But Jackson has none of that confusion, even if he doesn’t fight the whole ‘we really shouldn’t’ vibe that pops up early on. They are adorable together, and the tacit (and not so) encouragement from the Stiletto and Oxford crew is just enforcing that fact, even as they add huge humor and interest to the story. Mollie helped Jackson to be more outgoing and open with his new colleagues / friends, and we see him grow and develop a sense of ‘acceptance’ to the change of direction his career and life have taken. What could have been an uncomfortable tale was lightened with humor, peppered with solid characters and brought together with friendship and love. And don’t forget the heat that highlights the passion and attachment between the two. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

5 Stars Amazing Book! Let me ask you... how would you feel if you were a young twenty-year-old and realized that you had the biggest crush in the world for your sister's groom? Yep, at the wedding, he makes an effort to bring you into the fold of the celebration while you awkwardly sit on a bench away from everyone? He is always supportive of you and cares for you. But you are hopelessly lost in this crush you have for him. How would you feel if your sister dumped him after several years of marriage for another man? And now, you both are in the same city, sharing an apartment temporarily, with all these hormones flowing? I hope you read this amazing book and enjoy it as much as I did. It is well written, full of passion, mature, classy, and most of all... INTELLIGENT! It also asks the question can you dreams change and will you recognize what is important in your life? Don't let happiness pass you by!

I find it so amazing how Lauren Lane tells a story, because once I start reading I am completely lost in it. Her stories are always fresh, engaging, sexy and entertaining. She always has these fantastic characters that I want to be friends with. She is truly a fantastic story teller. This will leave you smiling and feeling oh so happy. So, I loved this story. It was full of personality and charm, I couldn't get enough. Loved Molly, she was fiercely loyal, adorably awkward, brainy research assistant that goes from being the plain little ex-sister in law, to a beautiful, sexy, woman with long sinfully perfect legs. Also loved Jackson, with his sweet and sexy charm and his all American gorgeousness. Loved that these two both had it bad for each other, but still tried to remain friends until their chemistry and lust swept them away. Great secondary characters with the Oxford employees that add so much to the story as well. This was a love story with equal parts sexy and sweet about two people who are absolutely meant for each other in spite of their beginning. Definitely hot with a small twist of drama. Couldn't get enough, didn't want it to end. LOVED IT!! Highly recommended. Thank you Lauren Layne! Received a complimentary copy through NetGalley and Love Swept in exchange for a honest review.
