Up-and-coming wedding photographer Leah McHale’s career is on the rise–thanks in no small part to the Wedding Belles, the elite New York wedding planning agency that always throws top-tier business Leah’s way. So when one of the Belles asks Leah to fill in at the former First Daughter’s wedding, Leah is overjoyed to say yes—until she finds out who she’ll be working with.

Jason Rhodes is the one man who was able to capture Leah’s heart and, once he had it, promptly stepped all over it and left her broken. Now he’s working side-by-side with her at the biggest wedding of the season and Leah is determined to give him the cold shoulder. Despite his persistence, she is not going to fall for his charming, impish ways again. Not even if he still has that killer, irresistible smile...

This was such a cute story! Jason and Leah are wedding photographers with a past. When Leah's friend needs some help at the president's daughter's wedding, Leah knows it's a once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity. The only catch is that she'll have to work with Jason - her ex, who broke her heart a year ago. Jason and Leah's chemistry explodes off the page, and I loved how determined Leah was not to have anything to with Jason. His transgression definitely does appear to be one of the worst kinds in a relationship, but things (of course) aren't always what they seem. But I also equally loved Jason's very obvious intent towards Leah - Layne worked her magic with these two. Despite wanting to stay away, these two couldn't - and when they finally talked it out (finally being a relative term - this romance happens in a short period of time), I was left with happiness and hope in my heart. Great story, perfect for a quick read and a phenomenal start to a new series! Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Fantastic start of a new series about three high powered New York City women of the Wedding Belles who run an elite wedding planning company. This a short story that delivers fabulous narrative, and an excellent story about second chance romance. The story is sweet and charming with drama, passion, love and some serious sizzling chemistry between Leah and Jason. Leah McHales career as a wedding photographer is on the rise thanks to the Wedding Belles. So when she is asked by the owner to do the former first daughter's wedding on short notice she is overjoyed to say yes, until she finds out who she will be working with. Jason Rhodes is an ex who captured Leah's heart but then left her broken. Now these two will need to work side by side. Leah is determined to not fall for his charm and killer smile again, while Jason knows that working this close with Leah is the only reason he took the job. When they are put up in adjoining rooms for the event, sparks, emotion and passion are just a breath and touch away, will Leah again succumb to Jason's sizzling charm? Because being this close is torture for them both. You will need to get this one to find out. You will also meet Alexis who is the owner of the elite wedding planning company and her assistant. This will steal your heart, leave you breathless and hopelessly waiting for the next story in this series. Could not put this down and neither will you. Highly Recommended! Lauren Layne can do no wrong. She’s a master at writing Contemporary, with an eloquent and exquisite writing-style that leaves readers falling head over heels with her novels. This novella from The Wedding Belles is a great start to the series! Don’t let the proper cover fool you. This novel is still as hot as her other novels *fans face* Jason and Leah had a summer fling and things ended with a huge misunderstanding, that only Jason knows about and still feels heart-broken over the fact that Leah didn’t stay to hear his side of the story. Now they have to work together and they are still very much attracted to one another, but still torn over what happened. This novella broke my heart! I don’t know how a novella can do much damage to my heart, but this one sure did. I teared up and wanted to hug these characters! I could feel all the emotions, from heart-break, to anger, to love… Everything was felt and from something so short! I wanted more from this couple and I know that Lauren will include them in the other books of the series, as she always does. If it’s Lauren Layne, then you know the romance is top-notch, sexy and hot to the max, yet sweet like a candy store. I was very satisfied and I enjoyed this one a lot!
  • These two are so frustrating in ALL the good ways

Men. *sigh* Sometimes they are just so stuck in their own stuff that they can’t get out of their own way. It’s not just men though, as Leah soon proves with her stubborn refusal to listen to anything BUT the noise in her own head. Wedding photographer Leah McHale is solidly confident about her own skills, and booked out years in advance for them. Her friend Alexis, the owner of The Wedding Belles, THE up and coming wedding planning business in New York has offered her a career-changing wedding gig. It only comes with one small hiccup – she needs to work in tandem with another photographer, and that photographer happens to be the one man she can’t forget – Jason. Jason Rhodes, former foster kid turned Army Ranger, retired to photographer after a car bomb decimated his unit and sent him on a search for a new career. Another photographer in the rolodex at Wedding Belles, Jason is handsome, charming and sexy, and comes with a reputation. A fling between these two a year before ended with Leah’s discovery of a strange female in his house followed by radio silence leaves these two with sparks and unaddressed questions. Who’s to blame? Oh they both are – to be sure. Leah, even after hearing Jason’s stories of his childhood and service couldn’t move past her knowledge of his player past. Jason, with his own, and completely understandable, trust issues is unwilling to take a step out and risk rejection. Instead, the two have tortured themselves with memories of what was, and questions linger. If these two could only get past the hurt feelings and actually TALK to one another, and really listen, the story could end there. But, after days of off the charts sexual tension, some quiet moments of camaraderie and a SUPER steamy night – things are still unsettled. These two are so frustrating in ALL the good ways, and both need intervention that fortunately comes to break through the walls of hurt, and bring them together. A wonderful set-up for the series, with heat, heart and some clever dialogue mixes with the chaos of weddings from a new perspective. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Jason and Leah have not seen one another in a year. Now when they are working the same event, Jason tried to get Leah to talk to him about what transpired last year. Leah also has a hard time resisting the man who gets her motor running. Can she forgive and forget? Or will it be relive and regret? Jason just wants someone in his life to know him well enough to trust him. This is just an incredible story! It has all the feels inside and a few surprises for the reader as well. The heat between the characters is just bursting off the page. I love the banter and the sincerity that come across also. I cannot wait to read the next installment in this series! ****This ARC copy was given by Netgalley and its publisher in exchange for an honest review.
