Description

The thrilling conclusion to the multiple USA Today Bestseller, Crown of Lies, from New York Times Bestseller, Pepper Winters

TWO YEARS
Since my life changed for the second time and not necessarily for the better. Two years since I traded prison bars for streets and hunted a runaway who I’d met in an alley.

TWO DAYS
Since I forgot how to lie, woke to fists, and chased after the girl who’d been stolen from me.

TWO HOURS
To save her, rescue her, keep my lies intact. She looks at me full of hate. I look at her full of confession.

TWO MINUTES
For our relationship to switch from mutual dislike to floundering with unknowns. I’ve hurt her. Now, she’s hurt me. I guess we’re even.

TWO SECONDS
For her to listen, to see, to finally know who I am. The answer comes with hardship. The answer isn’t what she wants to hear.

TWO BREATHS
For me to walk out the door.

TWO HEARTBEATS
For it all to be over.

Worst Book by this author. This book was so bad it actually turned me off to reading for the rest of the day, which is saying a lot since I have read 44 books in the first 60 days of 2017. I can't believe this book was written by Pepper Winters. This was a horrible book, no plot, no attachment to characters, repeative internal dialogue, no angst. At 25% I started to read just the dialogue, then at 50% scanned quickly to end just to verify that in fact this a horrible book by a decent author. If I did not know the author it would have been a big DNF. Book actually should be a 0⭐️. Better books by this author are the following: Monsters in the Dark series Indebted series Dollars series
  • Not too dark, full of suspense and sexy times.

This is the second book and also the conclusion to Crown of Lies. Elle and Penn's on again off again love story. We have our happy ending after the cliffhanger in the first book and it is oh so satisfying. I love this author. Some of her books can be especulara and kinky. This one is mild and just as riveting. Penn is dominant and alpha to the core, but also protective and in love with Elle. Elle has grown up a lot since the first book and I enjoyed watching her turn into a lioness and stay her sweet self. Kudos to Pepper Winters. Highly recommend all of her books for their complicated and oh so human characters.

Throne of Truth picked up where Crown of Lies ended with Elle being kidnapped and held against her will by Greg. Throne of Truth was told in alternating POV's between Penn and Elle. Clear your weekend because you are not going to want any interruptions as you read Throne of Truth. Once you begin this journey everything else will fade away as you absorb yourself in the world of Penn and Elle. It was thrilling and exciting waiting for the unexpected to occur. Greg was delusional thinking he could claim Elle. You could feel Greg's desperation and Elle's fear. Elle's panic over Greg's irrational behavior gave the story a chilling beginning. "Cuddling me into him, his embrace reeked of contempt for Penn and lust for me." I love this quote. With the clock ticking away and time running out my nerves were flowing with adrenalin at the expectation of the outcome. "Answers were so close. I was desperate for them. Hungry for closure and truth." This quote summed up my exact feelings. It was exciting and thrilling reading the words that would bring me these answers. "We’d started under false pretenses and then been torn apart before we could reconcile them." So many memorable quotes it was hard to choose which was my favorite. Penn and Elle were sexual characters driven by physical attraction. These characters fought hard to maintain a loving bond that spanned the test of time and circumstances. Penn and Elle had desire so passionate I could feel the lust in the words. These characters will linger in your thoughts. Elle's privileged lifestyle was not effective enough to make a difference in matters of importance. Elle had grown from the young nineteen year old girl that was introduced in Crown of Lies. Three years later Elle was no longer running away, trying to obtain a lost youth, instead she was powering through work and trying to free Penn. Just when you think you have it all figured out Pepper pulled out an arsenal of clever dialogue and solutions so unexpected it was brilliant. I love the imagery of words Pepper created to illustrate the setting. I could picture the details perfectly. Pepper offered the perfect balance of push and pull, pleasure and pain, distance and connection, love and hate, safety and recklessness. This was not your typical romance. This started off with lies. Two strangers who met under unusual circumstances torn apart by an unforeseen situation that separated them for three years. Elle and Penn fought the odds of an unlikely connection. It could be labeled a second chance romance, a forbidden lover romance, a love/hate romance, an unconventional romance, a fated romance, a love tested romance or an insta-romance. Whatever, you want to label it the fact remains that Pepper brandished her own uniqueness to these characters creating unforeseen unexpected circumstances that kept me hooked from beginning to end.
