I just bought the fourth in the Slayers Hockey series…or at least I thought I did. Turns out what I got was an 18-page teaser. I did a search and the only other one I came up with was the Dutch version. Not helpful. HELP!?!

This book should come with strong and serious warnings. Have you ever read a book that pulls you in from the start, has you totally consumed … to a point where you’re snarling at anyone (… and I mean A.N.Y.O.N.E.) who interrupts you, and one that leaves you in the worst book hangover you’ve ever had? …. Dirty Talker by Mira Lyn Kelly was all that and more for me. 5 Stars wasn’t enough to represent the terrific characters (both familiar and new) and how well the book was written. If you haven’t read one of Mira Lyn Kelly’s Slayers Hockey books, you can start with Dirty Talker because Ms. Kelly is a super talented and creative writer. Yes, Dirty Talker is book #4 of the Slayers Hockey series, but it’s so well written that one can read as a standalone … BUT another warning needs to be issued. If you start with Dirty Talker, you’re going to want to download all the the other Slayers books … and then her other books … and you’ll fall back into that “I’m READING” snarl to keep everyone away so you can binge! Harlow and Wade have become my favorite Mira Lynn Kelly couple. The pair are very well developed as main characters. Wade is at the tipping point in his NHL career where he’s starting to believe he’s in the league to stay. Harlow has been passed over for promotions despite the deep contributions that she’s making … all at a hurt that is nearly too deep to imagine. They both fall into the fake romance for differing reasons, all of which are quickly thrown out the window as they stop fighting the chemistry and attraction. They both have career challenges, yet differ on family. Wade is neck deep with family and friends who support him, while Harlow has been on her own for as long as she can remember. Dirty Talker is appropriately titled … Wade’s raw honesty and willingness to voice his feelings had me highlighting most of his dialogue. … and another cheer for Ms. Kelly’s writing is that the chapters switch up the POV so you always know what each of my favorite characters are thinking. Nobody writes raw dialogue like Ms Kelly ….and in Dirty Talker she’s taken it to a whole new level. As Harlow starts to think about getting on board with Wade’s powerplay to make her a permanent part of his life, she starts to realize that she’s been missing out on more than she ever knew. “Be the bunny” … Familiar characters from Slayers series are supporting characters in Dirty Talker … and the advice they give to Wade is brilliant … and the scene where he puts it in motion had me checking to make sure my eReader wasn’t on fire! “…because I never ... quit. Yea, I got here. But if I let up for even a minute, I wouldn’t be here” and “If you want something work at it. If you don’t get it, work harder” … These two passages really brought home how brilliant Ms. Kelly is at characters. While at first Wade and Harlow seem worlds apart, they both work harder than anyone around them and don’t quit. In a scene that I’ve re-read about 8 times, Wade nearly brought me to my knees when he not only recognized Harlow’s commitment towards her goal, but was willing to sacrifice and support her, even when he was afraid of the outcome I could go on and on and on … but I’ll end this so you can download … with the advice that you immediately start muttering that you really don’t feel well … and then settle in for a fabulous read. I received an ARC. This is my honest review.

Wade Harlow, a Slayers Hockey player, is in need of a fake girlfriend to accompany him to his brother’s wedding. He wants to enjoy his brother’s wedding and family, without the constant nagging and setting him up with the girl (with stalkerish behavior) everyone thinks he should be with. None of his hockey buddies is willing to “give up” a sister to help a friend...they know what a player he is or seems to be. While stewing over his predicament at the bar with his buddies, in walks a beautiful woman who looks as if she’d rather be anywhere but there. She looks familiar.... Harlow Richards has worked her entire life for the chance to impress her father, to be seen and loved. Her mother died when she was young and she never felt as though she “fit” into her family—although she tried. When she’s passed over for a promotion that should’ve been hers, she’s hurt and disappointed that her dad chose her wayward brother over her. Her friend drags her to the bar in hopes of getting her to let loose. Boy does she ever! After a few drinks, she decides to accept Wade’s offer and be his “fake” girlfriend. It’s something she would never normally do, but she’s tired of going by the rules and not really living. After spending 10 days with Wade, Harlow’s invested. Wade’s family has been so welcoming, loving, caring—everything hers isn’t. She craves that family connection that Wade has given her. Wade is kind, loving, family oriented, the home-town hero of sorts...Wade respects Harlow’s drive and ambition, but also knows she needs to get out of her head and let go, enjoy life. Wade and Harlow’s journey is hilarious, heartfelt, and supportive. Although Harlow’s heart is broken by her family, she has Wade. Wade’s family is more than she could ever ask or dream of. I loved their runs, talks, life goals...When they started their fake relationship, they thought they had nothing in common. In reality, they had so much more. Loved, loved, loved this novel. I also loved the touch of suspense at the end. Although Wade played for the Slayers, this story was set in the off-season, so it wasn’t all hockey-based. One of my favorite novels in the series! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Out of all of the books in this series this one was my favorite! I loved Harlow and Wade’s story. How they came to love was so sweet. I liked that there was no unnecessary drama keeping them apart rather just two people with chemistry that worked things out. I wish the book was longer because I wanted to see more of them together (I loved them that much). Hopefully we can get to see glimpses of them in the next book!

Mira Lyn Kelly keeps writing all these sexy, intense, amazing hockey players, trying to tempt me from Vaughn, my one true Slayers love! It’s not fair and it’s not going to work! Or is it? Because while I love all the men she writes, Wade may just be sharing the top of the podium now. Wade’s pairing with Harlow might look like opposites, but these two are intense in exactly the same way. Both put more than 100% into their jobs, but while Harlow has no life outside the office, Wade is all about showing her that there’s more to life than 15 hour days. They sizzle from day one, because their conversations are so open and honest. They’re building a fake relationship through real friendship, and that’s one of the sexiest things there is for this reader. So for all the dirty talk this hunky guy dishes out, it’s his real-ness that’s the biggest draw. Every character in this book is someone I want to hang out with. Well, almost all! Wade’s family is as wonderful as he is, and his buddy Axel is a bad boy to the core. I just know he’ll be getting his own story at some point...but I imagine there’s at least one other player looking to score as well. Yes Ms. Kelly...I saw that teaser you snuck in there! Wade and Harlow are one of my favorite couples, not just this year or this series, but ever. I guess Vaughn will just have to share that throne with his teammate now!
