Description

Painted Wolves of Africa – A Photographic Journal This book showcases our experiences with painted wolf packs during our African travels. It includes images from pups at the den through to the excitement and brutality of the hunt. Locations include Botswana’s Okavango Delta and Linyanti, Tanzania’s Serengeti and Selous, Kenya’s Masai Mara, Sabi Sands in South Africa and South Luangwa in Zambia. Painted wolves (Lycaon pictus) are known by many names including African wild dogs, African hunting dogs and painted dogs. David Attenborough in the recent series BBC Dynasties suggested painted wolves is the most accurate and appropriate. Lycaon pictus translates directly as painted wolf. Population estimates of 6,600 in less than 700 packs stand them at significant risk of extinction. They are Africa’s second most endangered carnivore after the Ethiopian wolf. Continued reduction in wilderness areas and growth in domestic farming threaten their future. The book contains 250 images taken from 2013 to 2019. Pam and Wayne’s books have been downloaded in 41 countries.
