Description

Wilderness and wildlife photography was once the preserve of either the elite, paid professionals on epic assignments or the hardscrabble dedicated who took a vow of poverty in pursuit of their art. We mere mortals could only look on in admiration (with more than a few green tendrils of envy). Rapid development of digital technology irrevocably changed the game, democratised photography and broke many long-standing limitations. To me, the change in underwater photography was stark. I had been shooting film for many years and the freedom of changing ISO with the press of a button and losing the constraint of 36 images per dive was revolutionary. There was longer a frustrating wait of two weeks to see if focus and exposure were accurate. Working up close with megafauna always creates a rush and perhaps none more so than swimming alone with sperm whales in the Atlantic Ocean. But all of nature is sublime and it's a privilege to be able to document these personal experiences. This book is all DSLR camera work product. I have selected 100 images from my wildlife and wilderness photography. The earliest was shot in 2007. The geographic range is from East and Southern Africa, the Kingdom of Tonga, the Azores, the Arctic, Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Sulawesi and Raja Ampat in Indonesia. I have included some landscape images and, although I am not normally a people photographer, some of the iconic semi-nomadic Himba people of North Western Namibia. The last section of the book deals with equipment and technique. Wayne Osborn Wayne’s books have been downloaded in 41 countries.
