He saw what you did. He knows who you are…
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Pieces of Her and The Silent Wife, an electrifying standalone psychological thriller.
AN ORDINARY LIFE…
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She’s an up-and-coming defense attorney at a prestigious law firm in Atlanta, would do anything for her sixteen-year-old daughter Maddy, and is managing to successfully coparent through a pandemic after an amicable separation from her husband Walter.
HIDES A DEVASTATING PAST...
But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood no one should have to endure … a childhood tarnished by dark family secrets, broken by betrayal, and ultimately destroyed by a brutal act of violence.
BUT NOW THE PAST IS CATCHING UP…
On a Sunday night at her daughter’s school play, she gets a call from one of the firm's partners who wants Leigh to come on board to defend a wealthy man accused of multiple counts of rape. Though wary of the case, it becomes apparent she doesn't have much choice if she wants to keep her job. They're scheduled to go to trial in one week. When she meets the accused face-to-face, she realizes in a moment of chilling suspense that it’s no coincidence that he’s specifically asked for her to represent him. She knows him. And he knows her. More to the point, he may know what happened over twenty years ago, and why Leigh has spent two decades avoiding her past.
AND TIME IS RUNNING OUT.
Suddenly she has a lot more to lose than this case as she's pulled into a dangerous game of blackmail. The only person who can help is her younger, estranged sister Callie—the last person Leigh would ever want to drag into this after all they’ve been through. But with the life-shattering truth in danger of being revealed, she has no choice...
“A high-stakes thriller . . . Her heroines are believable, flawed and courageous.” –OYINKAN BRAITHWAITE

Couldn’t put down
5By ReaderToastPage turner from beginning to end. So good!Floored!
5By brianclintIf I could give this 6 stars, I would. I’m a recovering addict, a victim of sexual assault, and an avid reader. This story gives me a thrill ride I cannot describe. The character development and deep dive into an addicts mind are BEYOND comprehension; if you’ve never been in their shoes, this novel puts you there. The storyline and the twists and turns are mind blowing and SO well written. It’s more than a thriller, it’s an eye opener.great book- long but worth it
5By jlgrahamfor me, this book took a little while to get into, about 200 pages. But after that, I was hooked! The description and storyline were impeccable. I could not put this book down from page 500 on (I read this on my phone so obviously the pages might be different for someone reading the paperback version). I do not mind when a book takes a little bit longer to get into, and I understand that she had to set the storyline. Overall, this was a great read and even made me cry at the end.Heavyyy
5By naomi0110This is the first Karin Slaughter book that I read and man it was a little heavy. I love thrillers but have never read one where any type of SA has been a part of it. Especially in detail. Nonetheless, the book kept me wanting to read more and more from start to finish. The epilogue had me SHOOK.Verbose!!!
1By Duran2GirlThis book was very wordy and boring. I was able to skip through several pages throughout the book without missing anything of importance.Tested positive for frustration
2By Mosaic4EverSO MUCH COVID I couldn’t tell if it was sardonic or earnest. Not what I come for in an escapist read.False witness
5By lovehappyendingsGreat read…I cried at the end…Meh
3By Egg47If you’re tired of talking about Covid and politics of any kind don’t choose this one.Incredible book
5By MGoBlueAKI could absolutely not put this down!Riveting
5By kaykaybean13This story had me captivated and immersed so deeply that I read it finish to end in one sitting. The harrowing history of these two sisters is devastating and their loyalty, love and abject guilt they both carried with them since they were teenagers is diametrically opposite of each other’s yet equally as crippling and damaging. The twists, shocking revelations and circumstances that have happened will leave the reader shocked and the desperate actions these two are forced to face and the choices they have made will leave you awestruckI want to like it
1By plzNot AgainMore time is spent on details surrounding covid than anything else! Every other page is about her putting a mask on. Or when her sister had covid. Or when she had covid. Or vaccines. Or long covid. Don’t bother. I really want to get my money back.Pass this one up.
2By Angele's IPODI was not a fan of this book. The ending was the best part. The constant Covid references were annoying and the characters were not likable.Great from start to finish
5By LazybadchefI can’t recommend this book enough. No lulls. I couldn’t put it down. Great thrillerFalse Witness
5By TerreesaThis is my second Novel by this author. The audiobooks take me on a journey of intrigue, and suspense. I drive for work, and this is how I pass my time.False witness does make sense for this book
3By coliebaby2150The story is pretty good, it drags on a long time and the constant Covid reminders that have nothing to do with the actual story are really annoying! Please read!
5By Blakes ItunesThis book had me from the beginning with strong female characters that have real fears. Lots of twists I didn’t suspect! A few holes in the story, but it will keep you reading!4 stars
4By CDA in MSGood plot, just very drawn out and longer than it should be. Characters are really intriguing, definitely worth reading.not her best but still good
3By CotlearI have read multiple of karin’s slaughters work and it’s fair to say that this has been the worst one, although that does not mean it was bad. It still had good writing and pulled you in but it just did not compare to some of her other books. Also i know this book is new so covid was a thing when she wrote but i really hate that she even mentioned it at all. Especially in the beginning of the book when every page had a covid reference it was annoying me.Good but overwritten
3By dmbRJREnjoyable read that could be accomplished in 400 pages or less.
