WATCH WILL TRENT ON ABC!

“Expect from a Karin Slaughter crime thriller . . . just the right amount of twists, turns, shocks, surprises and domestic thrill and shrill.” — Parade

The instant NYT bestseller featuring Will Trent and Sara Linton from Karin Slaughter, author of Pretty Girls and After that Night!

One toxic family.

Eight suspicious guests.

Everyone is guilty.

But who is a killer?

For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night.

 A murderer in their midst

Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying….Lying about their past. Lying to their family. Lying to themselves.

 Who killed Mercy McAlpine?

It soon becomes clear that normal rules don’t apply at McAlpine Lodge, and Will and Sara are going to have to watch their step at every turn. Trapped on the resort, they must untangle a decades-old web of secrets to discover what happened to Mercy. And with the killer poised to strike again, the trip of a lifetime becomes a race against the clock…

I struggled through this. Have loved all the others. Maybe it is time to retire this series.

It was ok. But, in reading these Will Trent books, I can't help but think that it would be impossible for him to work in any law enforcement capacity. I don't think they would hire him . He would fail the phycological part. He talks about his dead mother constantly. She died when he was a baby. He is not mentally fit. Lots of people have trauma, but he doesn't seem to ever work through it.

I used to be a fan of Karin Slaughter, liking every book she wrote. But the plots are just getting more and more bizarre and unbelievable. On top of that, I’m not seeing any likable character in this novel, so for me, there’s nothing to relate to. This may be the last novel of hers, I’m reading, but I’m hoping for something better.

Why do so called celebrities have to get involved in politics. Chapter 2, Sara said 'crazy vaccine theories'. I wonder if the author meant Pfizer's very OWN covid 19 vaccine report that had NINE pages of horrific deadly life altering effects?!!! Or the thousands of people who died from the vax? Pfizer lost their court case and had to release their findings. Bet you didn't hear this from the media.
  • Intense read | Interesting Plot | A little lengthy

I rated this book a 3/5 but it’s really a 3.5 and some change out of 5! In general, the book was a great binge read (I read it on 11 hour direct flight LAX - CDG). It kept me on my toes, and then my toes would get tired from being on my toes so much. AKA you would get to the point of the climax and the chapter would end and you’d need to follow the other part of the script. It was an exceptionally dark read. I felt like it accurately reflected abuse and how dark carrier families can be.

Love this series and this one was powerful. A reviewer earlier wasn’t happy with this book claiming the characters and story were too dark. Yes child abuse is dark, it’s ugly. It comes in many forms and it doesn’t discriminate. And it’s happening around you where it’s least expected. If you’re a fan of Law & Order SVU, you’ll appreciate a Will Trent version
  • Way too dark and depressing

I have read all of her books and liked them but this one was way too dark and depressing. Very heavy subjects with characters that were hard to relate to and very unlikable. I love a good murder mystery but this one just made me feel sad.
