Description
Discover the world of the Shadowhunters in the first installment of the New York Times and internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series and “prepare to be hooked” (Entertainment Weekly). City of Bones is a Shadowhunters novel.
A simple night out with her best friend, Simon, transforms into a nightmare when fifteen-year-old Clary Fray witnesses a murder at the Pandemonium Club. The culprits are three teenagers covered in strange tattoos and brandishing weapons no one else seems to notice. In fact, Clary is the only one to see the violent display. The next day, more impossible sights make Clary wonder if she’s going crazy.
When a desperate phone call from her mom brings Clary home to a scene of destruction and a grotesque monster that almost kills her, Clary finally gets some answers. One of the teens from the club—Jace, who looks like an angel but acts like a jerk—rescues her and introduces himself as a Shadowhunter, part of a secret cadre of warriors dedicated to driving demons out of the mundane world and back to their own. Jace and his friends Alec and Isabelle hunt their prey on the streets of New York City, unseen by humans…except for Clary.
The Shadowhunters want to know how Clary can perceive the paranormal and Clary wants their help finding her missing mom. Their tentative alliance brings Clary deeper into the world of Nephilim, werewolves, vampires, and demons, where she adapts better than anyone expected. Could this be where she’s belonged all along?

5By teresa052816This book is so different from the tv show and a little different from the movie it’s amazing. 10/10 recommend.Mostly Good, Lots of Backstory
3By Pokémon Master Gilmore BoyI enjoyed meeting the characters and the shadow world, but I felt the world building and mythology were received as data dumps, rather than organic plot points. This was still an easy read that I did mostly enjoy. One of my favorites

4By Miss Autumn RainVery creative and well written. I hadn’t heard of Cassandra Clare and this was the first book of hers I read. (My apologies if this is her first book I know there are many more after this that are great as well!) After reading this I am definitely a fan!! Her characters are creative and so many more going beyond slightly redundant werewolves and vampires. Easy to read hard to put down! Great start to a entire series of great books! Definitely recommend!Love these books!!!
5By jjjjo:)I have reread this series many times. Definitely recommend reading all. Their love story(clace) is so unique. Well written characters and amazing plot. Really makes you want to live in this fantasy world lol. You’ll love it!YA friendly - 18+ meh
3By ReaderMoriahI was excited to read because of all the positive reviews. While it says “young adult” - I’ve read plenty that captivate my attention and keep me on the edge of me seat from beginning to end. City of Bones on the other hand, has dragged. The monsters are described almost unbelievably and cartoonish, the dialog is “young” and the plot slow. The entire first book is over a course of a week? I wish more time was focused into Clary and her development into this new, unimaginable world. I will say there are tons of unexpected and expected twists that some books don’t have. I won’t be continuing the series but do recommend to those looking for an intro into the romance fantasy world.Just do it
5By magnus4lifeOnce you are done reading this one read the next one. Even if you don’t want to finish the series do it. You won’t regret it. It starts looking up. You may not want to but just do it. Trust me when I say it will all be ok. Hopefully you know what I’m talking about.Captivating!
5By Lia of the UnknownCassandra Clare introduces the unique world of the shadow hunters. She brings to life myths and legends into an intricate plot. If you are considering of starting the journey into that Shadow World this book will definitely hook you. I initially was interested with A Chain of Gold, but as I watched reviews of this book, I realized I should start with the beginning. The City of Bones is action-packed, mixed with teen drama, and made for fantasy lovers. The chemistry between the characters was undeniable. This book was also witty, and comical. Cassandra Clare made use of her words and helped expand my vocabulary. Clare can sometimes describe things in a way that I I can’t picture what she’s describing. Nonetheless I am hooked to the Mortal Instruments. Full of twists and turns, City of Bones is indeed captivating!BEST BOOKS EVER( I ♥️Clace)
5By wannabe shadowhunterI have reread this series four times ( yes it’s that good ) and every time I can’t put it down. It has the most plot twists ever in a series. It’s so well written that you feel like the characters are real, and that you know them. I’ve never reread any books before until this series, and every time I read it, i find something new that I never had understood or realized before. Absolutely AMAZING... props to Cassandra.
