Description

Two abandoned souls are on the hunt for one powerful man. Soon, their paths will cross and lead to one twisted fate.

Danny Hansen is a Bosnian immigrant who came to America with hopes of escaping haunted memories of a tragic war that took his other's life. Now he's a priest incensed by the powerful among us who manipulate the law for their own gain, uncaring of thes hattered lives they leave behind. It is his duty to show them the error of their ways, even if he must put them in the grave.

Renee Gilmore is the frail and helpless victim of one such powerful man. Having escaped his clutches, she now lives only to satisfy justice by destroying him, regardless of whom she must become in that pursuit.

But when Danny and Renee's paths become inexorably entangled things go very, very badly and neither of them may make it out of this hunt alive.

This book portrays an illustration of the spiritual reality of the impossibility for us humans to be saved by the law. We all fall short of the glory of God, we all break God's law in a way or another, especially those who think of ourselves above the law, and judge others for their actions, but by doing so, we're condemning ourselves falling into the same category as the ones we are judging. I love the way this book shows the triumph of grace and love over judgment. Have you being tempted to think you're better than others, point to other's sins but excuse your own? This is where grace and love abounds. Jesus Christ payed it all to made it possible for us to be forgiven. He was the sacrificial lamb in the punishment room. He is a perfected Danny, because He didn't come to condemn sinners, but to die for them and buy their salvation. That is why salvation is free, Someone has paid the great price.

We live in a world that lives on the surface, never daring to face the darkness of our souls and the purity of our design. Once again, Dekker uses the medium of story to challenge us to reflect our own connection to the characters involved in a tale we all know.

I was engrossed by the story and enjoyed it as I have all of Dekker's other books. However, the ending of this book left me feeling cheated. It was weak and abrupt. Worth your time though.
