- Release Date: 2013-03-19
- Genre: Fantasy
Description
In this sequel to The Lost Gate, bestselling author Orson Scott Card continues his fantastic tale of the Mages of Westil who live in exile on Earth in The Gate Thief, a novel of the Mither Mages.
Here on Earth, Danny North is still in high school, yet he holds in his heart and mind all the stolen outselves of thirteen centuries of gatemages. The Families still want to kill him if they can't control him…and they can't control him. He is far too powerful.
And on Westil, Wad is now nearly powerless—he lost everything to Danny in their struggle. Even if he can survive the revenge of his enemies, he still must somehow make peace with the Gatemage Daniel North.
For when Danny took that power from Loki, he also took the responsibility for the Great Gates. And when he comes face-to-face with the mages who call themselves Bel and Ishtoreth, he will come to understand just why Loki closed the gates all those centuries ago.

2By Kevo8898Terrible way to end the bookJust horrid
1By BDGLCard continues as always to write a unique and creative world. What is unfortunate is his heavy handed use of religion. It ruins the entire reading experience.Super-good - but waiting for 3rd book.
3By M382So glad I read the other reviews when I was roughly 1/10th of the way through this book. A 2nd-season cliffhanger ending is fine ... in TELEVISION- if the show's been picked up for a 3rd season. but it's NOT fine in a novel, when you've no idea when the author's going to finish his story. The beginning of The Gate Thief provided more of an ending to The Lost Gate, though; no reason to read further until the trilogy's complete. Back to Ender's stories for me. **LOVE** that Orson Scott Card is offering all his e-books for sale WITHOUT DRM. A fantastic example for other authors to follow!!! Authors shouldn't use DRM. Everyone benefits when they don't. Including the authors!Dissapointed
1By Shane Ryan AlexanderLove this author and his usual talent the lost gat was an amazing book and i couldn't wait to finish the sequel expecting there to be a trilogy at least but the last chapter made me regret getting close to the charactersBook in search of an ending
2By Tachyon450Loved the first book, loved this book until the last 20 pages when it seemed like Mr. Card was catching a cab to go on on an extended vacation and decided to finish it as fast and as unsatisfying as possible. Will there be a sequel? After reading the afterword, my reading of Mr. Card's explanation was there will not be, and that he simply ran out of material. He says he was 6 months behind deadline and this is the ending he comes up with? Sad.A worthy continuation of The Lost Gate
4By TommyDnnsYou must definitely read the Lost Gate before reading this sequel. Otherwise you will be "lost." But that's ok because they are both great books. I hope this becomes a long series like Alvin Maker. Can't wait for the next book. Oh, and Orson, please supply the promised maps!Good until the end.
3By Demosthenes and LockWhat a terrible ending..... If that's what you would call it.Wow
4By 47946635889433Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow U really had to leave a cliffhanger like that at the end.... P.s. dont read the last chapter it does tell you much and just makes the cliffhanger unbearable.OMG! It's here!!
5By dbaGraceCan't WAIT to start this!!!! Thank you Mr. Card!!!!Frustrating end
2By OnbuAnother brilliantly written book. I can't help but wonder though, where's the rest? The abrupt ending of this book is unfair to its fans. Instead of writing books as a series, why not just write one long book with an epic ending?
