Description
In the penultimate novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series—the inspiration for the HBO® original series True Blood—Sookie Stackhouse must work with her first love to clear her current undead flame of murder...
Felipe de Castro, the vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), is in town. It’s the worst possible time for a human body to show up in Eric Northman’s front yard—especially the body of a woman whose blood he just drank. Now it’s up to Sookie and Bill Compton, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who has set out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.

- Always Awesome !5By OhyeahfunOnce again Charlaine has given us another great Sookie story. These are always so entertaining and fun to read. If you haven't read the Sookie Stackhouse series you really need to !
- Deadlocked5By Liz311Great book. Love the Sookie Stackouse seires
- Deadlocked5By Teresalynne60I thought each book I have read in the Sookie Stackhouse series was great. I hate to see it end. Sincerely Teresa
- GOOD CHOICE5By Gma&ggmaof5I am glad Sookie used up the magic so she could quit stressing over it! I loved the ending and her choice for whom to use it on! That was the best show of true love. I won't mention the recipient so I don't spoil the ending, although I am sure some have done so. This is my favorite book of the series because of the ending. I so hope the final book sums everything up about everyone and I so want those that live through the entire series to have "happily ever afters". Reality is often not answered dreams with happy endings. This series is not reality, just in case someone did not get that, so please leave reality for the real world and make everyone's dreams come true or at least let them be content!
- Blah2By RedKITTM3I have read all of the books when they are released. I am finally getting around to writing the review. It was a pretty boring read, really. Not much happened. Was a let down that it wasn't exploring the relationship between Sookie and Eric very much. They were barely in the story at all together. The ending - was absolutely horrible. I got to the end and said "That's it?" I couldn't believe I had read the last part of the book. It just abruptly ended. Very strange. I will read the next book (#13), as it is the last one and I will want to see if there is some sort of ending to the series. I hope the next (and last) book is much better and worth it. It better not have the ending like this one! I will be glad for the series to be over though....it has been getting more predictable as time went on. Time to move on. Not much more you can do with the series at this point. I just want to know how it ends. Hopefully it will be a satisfying end. We will see. Just wish this book didn't have such a disappointing end.
- Another Great One5By CassalucaI'm a big fan of this series, and this did not disappoint! Definitely not the ending I was expecting. I am so sad that this is the second to last novel in the series!
- Sucker for romance5By LyvfarOverall great read I am however not particular about the ending I would have taken it a different route. But that doesn't make it any less wonderful! Great series, great book, now to wait for the next book...
- Fantastic5By Mimi61681As always another fantastic read looking forward to the next one can't wait
- Do not buy1By Photo-obsessed2312This book is by far the worst book in the series! It is as if she was writing in a hurry and the ending was an even bigger disappointment.
- Talk about a hate/love relationship5By KellyZiembaThis book was just as amazing as the prior ones. Once you start reading it you cannot set it down. The ending was not my stories though.
- Was this the last book?2By NormaJean62I thought I read she was releasing the last book in the series May 2012. If this was it I am so disappointed. I loved the books until the last three. No real story line, seems as if it was thrown together in the last chapters. Too many characters, too much space wasted on reminding readers about EVERYTHING that ever happened significant..or not. At least the author did not do what Laurel Hamilton did with Anita Blake. That series has become a train wreck. Back to the subject: I hope this was not the end. To leave the characters like this and not let the reader have real closure no matter how it ends is cruel and maybe a bit lazy on the authors end. That's it. Ms. Harris became very lazy and maybe even bored with the later books. Oh well, nothing we can do.
- Finally5By A1620I have been so mad with this season of True Blood. The characters are completely lost from what Charlaine has made them. This book was my savior through this awful television series. I always feel that the book is better , but most try to follow the same story line. True Blood is not even close. Same names, but not even close on story line. I thought it was good at first because I. Thought it would be the same characters in similar situations. The characters personalities are different and story lines are so far stretched from the book it is depressing. I have been waiting for Quinn to appear in the series and I get Tara turning into a vamp! Horrendous! This book got me through the worst of this season.it was great! It had all the rules, all the wonderful characters, and suspense. I loved the ending! So happy that she gave all the readers what they needed and are so lacking from the show. I do not think I will continue watching, but I pray for another book!!!
- Lacking2By Emily108I read some reviews about how disappointing this book was and sorry to say that I agree. I really hope this was a one time thing and that she is not giving it her all now there is an HBO series. As much as I enjoy watching it, it has not lived up to the books.
- Disappointing2By KittypauzHaving read all of the other "Sookie" books, I kept thinking, "this has to get better. It didn't.
- Deadlocked1By MichaelAlanWigginsSO disappointed, probably because Ms. Harris spoiled me with her first nine books about a new wave of supernaturals mingling with "normal folks" in the deep south. I'm even hooked on "True Blood", although their storyline has followed the books' plummet as far as I'm concerned. I guess it's time to check out what Anne Rice has been up to lately. I was pleasantly surprised by "Angel Time".
- Awesome book5By DustmaidThis was the best Sookie book so far!
- Amazing.5By Erica macI have been reading this series for years. It still amazes me. :) good job Charlaine!
- Big let down!!!3By CrysCharmingI have not only read this entire series, I have been a big fan. My favorite T-shirt is my Bon Temps football T. I have even collected autographed 1st editions of most of the books. I was so excited, and sad, to read the end of Sookie's story. The book in whole is a good book. BUT if you are looking forward to a conclusion you are in for a big let down. It left as if there would be another book. No closure at all. Just like those movies where there is all the build up and you never get the climax, you get so much potential for this great ending after several years with these characters and then nothing!!! I found myself on page 340 of 344 looking at ... and going this can not be it!?! Not even a epilogue! I hope the darn TV series has a better ending when it finishes. Absolute disappointment. Mrs. Harris, this may be your story to tell, but you owed your fans & followers to end it with some true conclusion. This was just an insult. It was worse than the last Dark Tower book that ended the series by repeating the first page of the first book.
