It was good but a little less steamy than the others. The Eric stuff was like a bucket of cold water.

Ok, I’m really not happy with this book. I liked the action and murder stuff just fine but the lack of a HEA with Eric or Bill just irritates the crap out of me since vampires were the big lovers. I really wanted Eric to fall head over heals for Sookie. Then when he left, I wanted him to pine, beg, & threaten other men, but none of that happened. He tried to have his cake and eat it too. I feel cheated!!

This isn't a review of the book as it is a complaint to Apple Books. Several chapters are missing their last page. Fix it.

She just gave up. Don't waste your money or time. I've never finished a book or series before and ended up hating the main character. HBO did everyone a favor by abandoning the plots of this series.
  • Wrapping up the series shouldn't mean ending it abruptly with forced relationships and zero closure

What a bummer. I really enjoyed this series and although I wasn't expecting and epic finale (10 quality books is good enough) I am pretty disappointed Sookie's tale ended in such an anticlimactic way. Did her and Eric even say goodbye to one another? Like at all? Anyway, what's done is done. I'll just pretend this book was never written and when I think of Sookie, I'll think of her in regards to the first ten books.

I was sorely disappointed with the ending of this series. It was better than the True Blood ending, but was still not what I expected. Spoiler. The last book was filled with bit characters that haven't been in the whole series. No Eric, and very little Pam and Bill. It turned into a book of shifters and fae. Not even a cameo from Bubba. The bad guys left alive all conveniently come together for a last stand against Sookie and lose (of course). So now she can live happily ever after, right? I doubt there is any reason to get After Dead. Just another way to get a few $ out of my pocket. Oh we'll, thanks for a mostly entertaining series! Just wish the last book would have stayed true to it.
  • A series wasted

I wish that I had never read this book. It ruined the entire series for me. I normally will reread a series that I like several times, but this series is dead to me now. It would have been better if she had never written it and let the series die with at big question mark. The plot is meandering and the ending is not believable. She drags in as many of the series characters as possible with no real contribution to the story line and yes I am upset with what she did with Sookie’s love interest. Not because I am so vested in one character, but because she spends the better part of series aiming Sookie at one guy and then at the last minute doing a 180 and leaving her with another. I like the character who Sookie ended up with, but I found it unbelievable. She basically dumped it on us without any real build up of the relationship. I am normally extreamily loyal to the authors I like. I seek out all of their older work. Short stories and other series, but I doubt I will ever read another Charlaine Harris book again.

I'm writing because I loved all the books but it would have been better if sookie used the cluvial dor to turn Eric into a human or wish freyda away so Eric and sookie could live happy ever after. This ending left me really depressed.

I loved it, but that's not who I was hoping Sookie would end up with.

I don't understand why this book has gotten so many bad reviews. I am only giving it 4 stars because there are still some unanswered questions. Such as, there was no specific person that Sookie ended up with. It was hinted at and some people assume who it was, but there was no concrete decision. As in, she agreed to marry or married a specific person and they lived happily ever after, etc... I hope this will be answered in the follow up book. Some people argue that the style of writing was different, but I disagree. I made it a point to re-read some of the previous books to refresh my memory of the style of writing and the characters. The writing style is the same as previous books, and this book was just as entertaining. I feel that the characters behaved the way they would normally have behaved, and stayed true to themselves. I felt the the ending of Eric and Sookie was sad, being a huge Team Eric fan, but in all fairness, it ended well. There were two major issues in this relationship, and I believe they were given a proper discussion. Eric still provided for Sookie to show her his affection for her, and it's clear that they both still love each other on some level. Sometimes love itself is not enough, and that is shown here. Don't judge a book based solely on what bad things other people have said about it. Read it for yourself and judge based on your own opinion. I'm glad I did. This book is a good read and Charlaine did a wonderful job of wrapping it up, although, there are some questions that still haven't been answered.

Very predictable. I get it was the last book and things needed to be ended, but a little more mystery and suspense would have been nice. It felt rushed and boring and worse than the last 2 books. After reading the previous reviews, I knew what I was getting myself into, but I couldn't not read the final book.

I wish I had read the reviews As stated in other reviews the last 2 books were definitely not up to the rest of the series. This last book was a chore to get get through and unimaginative.

The only criticism of this book that I have read are selfish people who do not agree with the ending. I myself did not enjoy who Sookie ended up with, however the last sentence in this book was the most empowering thing I have read in a very long time. Unlike the twilight series and basically every fairy tale ever created, Sookie is a remarkably STRONG woman. This is a character that is hard to come across. Everyone wants the happy ending with Prince Charming coming in on his white horse to save his princess. What this book does is show a woman who does not need a man to define her and will get through things no matter what, coming out the other side stronger. Buy it, read it, pass it on to your girl friends, your mothers, your daughters, any woman you can find because this is the message we should send to our kids. That a woman is control of her own life, she does not need a man to take care of her, and having the strength to get through heartbreak instead of letting it consume you is the mark of a truly remarkable woman. A woman all of us should want to be. SPOILER ALERT!!! And to whomever wrote "my poor Eric", are you kidding me? That jerk left Sookie for a more powerful vampire. He had a choice. He also treated her like absolute dirt at the end of their relationship so he did not deserve her to use her magic to keep him with her. Jeez!

I loved this series until the second to the last book. That book and this one are absent of all the things that are great about the series, and I won't recommend them to anyone. Characters you loved suddenly become myopic and disappointing. I often got bored while reading rather than excited with anticipation about what will happen next. This book was incredibly predictable and couldn't be less enticing. I feel as if CH lost her talent to write coherent, fluid novels and just threw these last two together to make a sale off the loyal fans. (Maybe she should have taken more time with them the way Sookie wants to with her latest "relationship.") I was so upset about this book and the lack of closure, especially in regard to Eric, that perhaps I will save others the time and money. You'll be happier and more satisfied if you just make up your own ending.

I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who has been a long time reader of the Sookie series. Highlights included old foes and friends alike making re-appearances and some serious questions answered. However, as an avid reader of the series and watcher of the show I'm not finished with the story of Sookie as well as her many commrades. I am still left wanting more. Darn it.

While not the best book in the series, I'm satisfied with the ending. A few loose ends are tied up for many of the characters. I saw many reviewers who were disappointed, but I'm not one of them. I'm still a Charlaine Harris fan and hope she continues with the "Grave" series.
