Description

Libya. Unfair stereotypes and obsolete political ratings had kept the most stunning and absolutely gorgeous ancient Greek and Roman ruins on the planet at bay from travellers. This had been more than just unfortunate. For the western part of Libya’s coast is dotted by the ruins of magnificent ancient Roman cities, while the eastern part is home of the ancient Greek ones, later converted by the Romans. The dry climate of the desert had preserved those sites remarkably, and they are arguably the best preserved ancient Roman and Greek sites on this planet. They stir the imagination of historians, dazzle photographers, and send the Italian tourists to the frenzy of the ultimate envy.

This book describes the author’s personal and unique experiences whilst his trip to Libya in 2005. This book contains 116 original photographs taken during the trip, practical information and description of places to stay, eat, drink, socialise with the locals and explore. The book covers the ancient sites of Sabratha, Leptis Magna, Apollonia, Cyrene and Ptolemais, as well as the medieval sites of Nalut, Kabaw, and Qasr al-Hajj, and the Berber oasis town of Ghadames. Tripoli and Benghazi are also included.
