By J.R. Ward
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the popular Black Dagger Brotherhood series comes a brand-new novel about arson investigator, Ann Ashburn, who is consumed by her troubled past, her family’s scorched legacy, and her current case: chasing a deadly killer.
Anne Ashburn is a woman consumed...
By her bitter family legacy, by her scorched career as a firefighter, by her obsession with department bad-boy Danny McGuire, and by a new case that pits her against a fiery killer.
Strong-willed Anne was fearless and loved the thrill of fighting fires, pushing herself to be the best. But when one risky decision at a warehouse fire changes her life forever, Anne must reinvent not only her job, but her whole self.
Shattered and demoralized, Anne finds her new career as an arson investigator a pale substitute for the adrenaline-fueled life she left behind. She doesn't believe she will ever feel that same all-consuming passion for her job again--until she encounters a string of suspicious fires setting her beloved city ablaze.
Danny McGuire is a premiere fireman, best in the county, but in the midst of a personal meltdown. Danny is taking risks like never before and seems to have a death wish until he teams up with Anne to find the fire starter. But Danny may be more than a distraction, and as Anne narrows in on her target, the arsonist begins to target her.
From the creator of the bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood, get ready for a new band of brothers. And a firestorm.
Consumed5By siatimoI’m now a J.R Ward diehard fan. I was in love with the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series, but this was a masterpiece. I love her powerful female and male leads. She is a consummate storyteller and her gift for depth in characters and erotica is unparalleled.
Consumed3By teeflawperI’ve read all of the Black Dagger novels, and truly love them. I also enjoyed Consumed, but didn’t think Ms. Ward needed to include her political opinions twice—with regard to how people decide to vote, and whether or not we build a wall. It’s all old news, and most people read novels to detach themselves from it, not to read about it in the form of an author’s opinion. Too bad —that makes me want to choose another favorite author!!
Consumed3By Critter cutsFound it bland and boring Glad I didn’t read first 2 in series.
Meh3By Martinadawn1If you’re used to the witty humor of the black dagger series, this is disappointing. It was ok’ish.
Consumed5By lee leaighI love to read JR ward books. The characters draw me in and I’m hooked!
Great Book5By LadynLakeLove this author. She is able to make her characters real and relatable. I care what happens. They engage my emotional center head on.
Another home-run!5By CCCSMITHI love the black dagger books but let me just say JR Ward can write ANY genre! This book had me on the edge of my seat and I was unable to put it down! Loved it! I don’t usually review books, but I would give this one 10 stars if I could!
Consumed and Addicted!!5By jewelsnmusikYou have a great talent.. I love BDB and I love firemen.. This new storyline is great !! Will always read what you produce.. Although I am anxiously waiting for Mhurder... Cause ill always be a BDB sister!!! ❤️❤️
If toy are not consumed with this but you're not hard core enough to read Ward4By Jaymy M.Wow, this one will really take ta in quite a journey. It deals with some pretty intense and graphic situations, with plenty of heat, a spot if colorful language, a mystery and incredible life choices. But, fans if J.R. Ward will appreciate how mixed up, messed up and real her characters are. Raw is a good word to describe most of the characters and their nerves of steel emotions. She writes these firefighters and cops honestly, as heroic and messed up as most truly are. They are are gritty, wounded and wound as her BDB and Fallen Angels are. And as someone who lives and works with guys and gals lime these, I can say she really gets them, how wonderful and messed up life and the job condition many. If you are not consumed with this group, finding out how the longterm investigation turns out, if they make it to the other side bruised and scarred but alive and functioning if not whole, then you are not hardcore enough to read Ward and her many tarnished characters. I wasn't sure what to expect coming into this one -- it has no supernatural element -- but was willing to give it a try. It is by The Warden after all. Besides, firefighters and cops are superhuman, literally running in when others run out and often achieving the seemingly impossible in the name of protection, service and self-preservation. Glad I did. Except for the wait between books...🙄😧 Fans of BDB and all of Ward's series won't regret signing on for another series. This one will get to ya. It's definitely not for the squeamish or faint of heart. * ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
Burning down the house5By Lisa Bateman**I received a copy from BookishFirst ** I’ve only read J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series so when I came across this new series, it had a wow effect on me. As with any author, when you see they write another genre, it makes you excited but also skeptical as to if they can pull it off. Especially when their first series is so good, nothing could ever compare. But golly how I was blown away! I can’t stress enough how well the author did it. That deep, aching pain the reader feels inside them this author can cause as you get to know the characters in the first chapter then tragedy hits, she does it in this book. I’m thinking oh no! A repeat of Wellsie and Jane from BDB. But alas, this character makes it. I could feel empathy, great suspense, romance and heartache. And a great mystery. Working a job like fire fighting, one would be on the thin line of being a little bit of a maniac lol. It would take someone like that to do the job. But would one go over that line? This was such an amazing read. One I will read again and again. The author really did her research on fire fighting. The H and h lived the life of a fire fighter. It was their world. And they loved each other. After the tragedy, one that involved the H having to chop off the h hand, they were never the same. I could feel the emotions they went through and see why it would be hard to reach out to one another. After all, the H almost died saving h. Warning: if you read this, don’t start at night because it will get your heart racing and keep you up all night reading. I felt a big adrenaline rush all through the book. The author really does have a gift from God for writing the stories she writes. I cherish every one of them.
