Description
Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett investigates a mysterious death at a secret remote high-tech facility in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller C.J. Box.
When a prominent University of Wyoming professor goes missing, authorities are stumped. That is, until Joe Pickett makes two surprising discoveries while hunting down a wounded elk on his district as an epic spring storm descends upon him. First, he finds the professor’s vehicle parked on a remote mountainside. Then Joe finds the professor’s frozen and mutilated body. When he attempts to learn more, his investigation is obstructed by federal agents, extremists, and Governor Colter Allen.
Nate Romanowski is rebuilding his falconry company—and financing this through crypto mining with the assistance of Geronimo Jones. He’s then approached by a shadowy group of local militant activists that is gaining in power and influence, and demanding that Wyoming join other western states and secede from the union—by force, if necessary. They ask Nate to throw in with them, but he’s wary. Should he trust them, or is he being set up?
As a storm of peril gathers around them, Joe and Nate confront it in different ways—and maybe, for the first time, on opposite sides.
Reviews
Extremely disappointing
1By Never Box AgainI used to love CJBox books, but since he has unashamedly fallen into radical right wing political commentary, I can’t stand them. I wish I hadn’t bought this bookRight-wing drivel
1By Jwk1470It all falls apart in chapter 22. The author believes that the groups that have acted to overthrow elected officials are all part of the deep state. He actually uses that term. These are just well-meaning patriots who’ve lost their jobs. They would never consider insurrection if they weren’t enticed and entrapped by the FBI. Except one of the conspirators is a sheriff’s deputy who plans to murder our hero the game warden. So how do you explain the sheriff’s deputy if the whole domestic terror threat is a figment of the libtards’ (another term used by the author) imagination? Inconsistent, inane drivel. Don’t bother.A Little Political but Still Good.
4By Scott_A_Miller4 Stars. I love the Pickett books and this one was no exception. Other than being a little preachy politically, I guess. I get enough of that daily in this country on every news platform in existence. Still, Joe and the gang were predictably enjoyable. The mystery was a good one and I can tell you it will be a quick little thriller to enjoy. Definitely ready for the next one.Failure to Launch
2By WillowOak3A really slow to develop story with a sub par ending. I kept reading just to see if it got good knowing some of the author’s stories. I waited and waited and then it ended. Not my favorite by this author.Storm Watch
1By Shadetree101Boorishly Booooring! You know I don’t know who wrote the screenplay for the streaming Joe Pickett series or who is actually directing the most boring childish and ridiculous……oh never mind like the director I’ve. List my wayStorm Watch
4By azherrfunNot the best by Box but not the worst. A lot of politics. Is the author running short of ideas? After all you can only have so many game poachers and so many blizzards in the state of Wyoming.:(
2By Dave DaCHNot sure who are writing these books but not the quality of all of C J Box books.Storm Watch
5By Doyle DoyleOn of C. J. best! Period!Yes, this book is a work of fiction
5By Miss MerryleeI thought it was very well written, kept me reading, I felt as if I were apart of the story. This is my first read by Cox. I will look for others.
