Don’t miss the JOE PICKETT series—now streaming on Paramount+
A stranger makes trouble for Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett in this gripping thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
Everything about the rich stranger is a mystery: the massive, isolated ranch in the remote Black Hills of Wyoming, the women who live with him, the secret philanthropies, the private airstrip, the sudden disappearances. And especially the persistent rumors that the man’s wealth comes from killing people.
Joe Pickett, still officially a game warden but now mostly a troubleshooter for the governor, is assigned to find out the truth. But he finds out a lot more than he bargained for. There are two other men living up at that ranch. One is a stone-cold killer who takes an instant dislike to Joe. He doesn’t frighten Joe at all. The other man is another story...

Terrific story that you won’t want to put down
5By Phantom2 MickWhat a story this is! Gripping tale of murder and corruption at the highest levels in a small county in Wyoming. Governor Rulon enlists Joe Pickett to be his eyes and ears but to not get too close and let professional law enforcement close the case. Somehow Joe can’t stay out of it.Stone cold

5By Wet againAn elusive billionaire named Templeton lives in a massive ranch in a very remote area of Wyoming called the Black Hill. To the townspeople he is a godsend. They were barely surviving. Out of work, very few businesses were still operating. He helps numerous people financially and is loved by all. Templeton has a dark side. His primary business is murder for hire. Another riveting read in this series!! Enjoyed immensely!!! My highest recommendation!!Stone Cold

5By ID/WYI started this series because it is based in Wyoming. Both my parents were raised in Central Wyoming and as a preachers kid, Wyoming was our home base. After reading the first book in the Joe Pickett series I wasn't sure I should continue to the next because I felt the language and some of the background scenes were graphically gratuitous. I feel that when the author found his footing he realized it wasn't necessary and stuck to adventure and action instead of cheap attention getters. His books only got better after the first one and I am enjoying this series and contemplating getting a classroom set for my students. I recommend this series for anyone who loves and knows the outdoors, and cares about the people who live close to the land - those people whose culture includes hunting and fishing.Stone Cold

4By WildcatWesternloverI love the movie “Shane” and this is the modern equivalent. I’ve bought 14 of these books and would encourage you to do the same. I’m addicted. Nate is Shane and Joe is Joe. I love these books. Thanks Robert x
4By keswvYrm is zAnother CJ Box page turner
5By Woody MaplesAs a huge fan of this series, I am afraid my remarks are just a bit prejudiced. I enjoy the way the author develops the characters and does not clutter the story with needless detail: just enough to hook us. We know what makes Joe Pickett tick. He has a very certain code of what is right and although he can be aggravating at times, he frequently leave us breathless. I can't wait for what is next!Loved it.
5By Is everythingtakenThis the first book by this author I have read. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and and am looking forward to reading more of his books.Draws you in.
4By HowwhenandwhyA good fast-paced story. Though it doesn't grab you in the first paragraph, or, for me, even the first page, you suddenly find yourself committed to the character, Joe Pickett. There was simply no point at which I was ready to put the book aside to pick up later. Although this is apparently a series of long standing, I as a new reader had no problem getting the lay of the land and the drift of the relationships. It stands alone just fine, with the caveat that I will be going back to the beginning to get to know these intriguing characters better.Stone Cold
5By 95949The complete set were a great read. Is this the end of Joe and his family? I hope not.Stone Cold
4By snarfishI almost live in Wyoming...Fort Collins, Colorado, so the lyrical descriptions of the country in season is why I buy all of these books. Offset by a good story, somewhat different every time, yet with comfortable and familiar characters that you already know--CJ Box has a winning formula without losing the infusion of something new. The only thing beyond belief was Missy--really, are we supposed to believe that Wolfgang Templeton was taken in?Stone cold is awesome
5By LaljThe Joe Pickett series keeps getting better and better, I've read all 14 or so of them in less than 2 months ... Simply wonderful is all I can say about CJ Box and his writing skills ! I'm only disappointed that I've read the last one for a while ! I was happy as a pig in slop when I knew I had several books left. Now I'm gonna be bored to death waiting on a new novelOkay Read
3By SvanderzylPurchased this book late one night hoping for a good mystery The book was "okay". I did not realize the book was part of previous novels about the same main character. Throughout the story I felt I was missing some back-history about most of the characters and the story line. Having read any previous novels would probably have made the story better. As far as it being a good mystery, i'd have to say look elsewhere.Excellent read
5By G'Dad12Hard to put down and very well written where all of the characters come to life.
