Re-read the original book RIGHT AFTER reading this book!
The original book suddenly became much richer and more enticing after I finished this Behind the Story, I HAD to open up the original book once more! What a way to increase the reading experience! Highly recommended!

“What was the inspiration behind the creation of this book?”  
Genova first learned about left neglect in a short story called “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.” The author, Oliver Sacks, is a neurologist. It is about a man who mistakes his left leg as the leg of a corpse and always tries to throw it away from his bed, except he always goes with it because it is his leg. The story fascinated her. How could anyone who isn’t aware of the left side of his surroundings, as in totally unaware of it, navigate through life in a meaningful way? How do they dress, cook, eat, go to work, have a relationship, and so on? Through graduate school and working as a neuroscientist, she came across snippets and tidbits of stories about people with left neglect, and she would become more and more fascinated and interested until she decided to make a story about someone who suffers from it. She was hoping to inform people and stimulate more research and conversation about the disorder…
