SAMPLE EXCERPT:
“What was the inspiration behind the creation of this book?”
Little Bee is an amazing read that captures the heart of the reader. Although the book itself is not based 100% on a true story, there are some parts that are said to have been inspired by a true story and the author’s personal experience.
The book is based on the true story of Manuel Bravo from Angola. In 2001, he fled to England and asked to be granted an asylum as he and his family had been prosecuted in Nigeria for political reasons, and if they returned, they would be killed. Thus, it was a matter of life and death, literally. It took Britain four years to come to a decision, and in 2005, Manuel Bravo and his son were arrested and put into an Immigration Removal Center. There, they found out that they would be deported to Angola the next morning. Overnight, Manuel Bravo made a brave decision—he decided to hang himself in a stairwell. When his son woke up the next morning, he faced that awful sight. The 13-year-old was the sole witness of the events of the previous night. However, what is more important was the effect of the rule that unaccompanied minors were forbidden by law to be deported outside the UK...
