Description

#1 New York Times Bestseller * A New York Times Notable Book * An NPR Best Book of the Year

Holly Gibney, one of Stephen King’s most compelling and resourceful characters, returns in this chilling “exploration of grief and delusion, just pure undistilled evil” (New York magazine) as she uncovers the truth behind multiple disappearances in a midwestern town.

When Penny Dahl calls the Finders Keepers detective agency, hoping for help locating her missing daughter, Holly Gibney is reluctant to accept the case. Her partner, Pete, has Covid. Her (very complicated) mother has just passed away. And Holly is meant to be on leave. But something in Penny’s desperate voice makes it impossible to turn her down.

Meanwhile, mere blocks from where Bonnie Dahl disappeared live Professors Rodney and Emily Harris. They are the picture of bourgeois respectability: married octogenarians, devoted to each other, and semi-retired lifelong academics. But they are also harboring a shocking, unholy secret in the basement of their well-kept, book-lined home, one that may be related to Bonnie’s disappearance. And it will prove nearly impossible to discover what they are up to…for they are savvy, they are patient, and they are ruthless. Now Holly must summon all of her formidable talents to outthink and outmaneuver these unimaginably depraved and brilliantly disguised adversaries in this chilling and unforgettable masterwork from Stephen King.

I honestly couldn’t put this one down. It helps to read Finders Keepers, Mr. Mercedes, and If it bleeds, but even if you don’t, it is still a good book that will give you enough of a background from the other stories so you can still understand the plot and characters.

Well, another masterpiece by the master himself in my opinion. I’ve been reading quite a lot since I turned 69 couple years ago. I will say though 69 wasn’t the kind of year I dreamed of back in my teens. I’ve read quite a few different authors, but I always keep coming back to Mr. King. I’m stuck on Mr. King till I read every book he has written. I may be halfway but I don’t care please keep writing. I just love the dark Tower all seven novels , quite a few for me I guess. Can’t wait to see what’s in the store next.

*Holly* by Stephen King dives into the dark recesses of human nature, blending the eerie with a modern investigative thriller. The novel centers on Holly Gibney, a familiar character for King fans, who steps into the spotlight in her own story. As she tackles a chilling case involving a missing person, Holly uncovers a disturbing conspiracy lurking in the heart of an unsuspecting suburban neighborhood. The novel’s pacing is tight, yet King still leaves room for richly drawn character development. Holly is compelling and relatable—an anxious but determined private investigator whose growth is as engaging as the mystery itself. King paints an unsettling portrait of evil hiding behind ordinary facades, and the story’s tension builds to a satisfying and terrifying climax. King’s ability to infuse his signature horror into the thriller genre results in a gripping narrative. Although the novel might not be as terrifying as some of his earlier works, *Holly* excels in suspense and atmosphere. Longtime fans of King’s interconnected universe will appreciate the nods to past stories while newcomers can easily enjoy this as a standalone novel. Whether you’re here for the mystery or the creeping dread, *Holly* delivers a solid and engaging read.
  • Too political

Stephen king is one of the greatest writers ever, but he ruined this great character, by talking about Covid and Trump. A book is supposed to be a getaway, not upsetting people. Avoid this book.

Well, not a typical Stephen King book regarding Gore and disturbing thoughts, however, it was pretty good… I might put it on my must-read list. Enjoy.

Too much political bullspit in this book, but I could ignore that if it was more involving. Just not up to par with his other book as far as plot goes. Relied too heavily on the readers attachment to the characters from previous books

Glad to get more inside of this character. Stephen King never disappoints.
  • Too Political

King has lost me as a reader. I am not a Trump fan but the last two books I have read from him are so political I couldn’t finish them. Add his disdain for those who chose not to buy into the covid politics and I couldn’t get past 7% of the book. Holly is such a great character I wish he could have stayed off his soapbox and let her do her thing.
  • Politics is King

This main purpose of this book is to shove Mr King’s political opinions down the reader’s throat. Unfortunate as it casts a bitter shadow on an otherwise compelling storyline.
