Description
A terrifying Lucas Davenport thriller from #1 New York Times–bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize–winner John Sandford.
They call them Travelers. They move from city to city, panhandling, committing no crimes—they just like to stay on the move. And now somebody is killing them.
Lucas Davenport’s adopted daughter, Letty, is home from college when she gets a phone call from a woman Traveler she’d befriended in San Francisco. The woman thinks somebody’s killing her friends, she’s afraid she knows who it is, and now her male companion has gone missing. She’s hiding out in North Dakota, and she doesn’t know what to do.
Letty tells Lucas she’s going to get her, and, though he suspects Letty’s getting played, he volunteers to go with her. When he hears the woman’s story, though, he begins to think there’s something in it. Little does he know. In the days to come, he will embark upon an odyssey through a subculture unlike any he has ever seen, a trip that will not only put the two of them in danger—but just may change the course of his life.

5By MuhlsSanford keeps the plots strong and continues to deliver outstanding dialogue and character painting. From the visceral feedback of Lucas Davenport's Porsche in downshift to the chilling behavior of a recidivist villain, Gathering Prey glistens to the last page. DM MuhlemanNever Disappoints
5By FlyfishCameraJohn Sandford has done it again. I've been a fan since the 90's and have yet to be even a little disappointed. Great work by one of the best writers in the business. Keep up the good work.DLP

5By Bailey955Riveting, great story, couldn't put it down. Love his characters, the good people are always warmed hearted and real. The bad are always really mean. Read all of his books. Never disappointed. What's next for Lucas?
5By CatchbigfishJohn Sandford has written another Lucas Davenport masterpiece! I can't wait to read the next one. It's been 25 years since "Rules of Prey" was released and I am as anxious for the next book as I was for "Shadow Prey". Please keep them coming.Gathering Prey
5By Say-Say JaneAs good as Connelly, almost as good as Burke. You feel like you are reading sentences as they are spoken, not the stilted words of a not so gifted wordsmith. Painting word pictures of scenes is also a rare talent. Great read!Love that Lucas Davenport!
5By Mac from Saint PaulMy favorite thing us that he lives in my neighborhood! Great book as usual, Prey novels never disappoint. John, please keep Lucas going!A rewarding addition to the Prey series
5By BatAttackIt's been a thought provoking, at times dark journey with Lucas Davenport and his cohorts...including a couple of detour books starring Virgil Flowers...and this one is no different. It's strong, it makes sense and has good pacing. Although it contains one of the darkest and downright ghastly bad guys (a crucifixion?), it plays well and the series is stronger for it. These books never disappoint. The Gathering
5By Wasted Monday.Classic Sandford. Evolving classic Davenport. Evelyn Woods could have used this book to encourage speed reading. Just waiting for the movie now, as well as all of the prequel movies sure to follow. There are just too many sequel possibilities here, such that John will have to choose carefully from just one of the 360° which he's left wide open. Assuming that he has no autobiographical desire to actually retire. I've lived in Michigan, been to the UP and loved the descriptive references, even if the geography was at times difficult to fingerprint.
