Description

In this #1 New York Times bestselling thriller, FBI Agent Atlee Pine returns to her Georgia hometown to investigate her twin sister's abduction, only to encounter a serial killer.
FBI Agent Atlee Pine's life was never the same after her twin sister Mercy was kidnapped -- and likely killed -- thirty years ago. After a lifetime of torturous uncertainty, Atlee's unresolved anger finally gets the better of her on the job, and she finds she has to deal with the demons of her past if she wants to remain with the FBI.
Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum head back to Atlee's rural hometown in Georgia to see what they can uncover about the traumatic night Mercy was taken and Pine was almost killed. But soon after Atlee begins her investigation, a local woman is found ritualistically murdered, her face covered with a wedding veil -- and the first killing is quickly followed by a second bizarre murder.
Atlee is determined to continue her search for answers, but now she must also set her sights on finding a potential serial killer before another victim is claimed. But in a small town full of secrets -- some of which could answer the questions that have plagued Atlee her entire life -- and digging deeper into the past could be more dangerous than she realizes . . .

I’ve read Baldacci for 25 years but I’ve never been more disappointed. Not only is it boring with too many filler chapters, this series lacks the true suspense of his others. Not to mention he is also resorting to weaving in political statements. He may not be retiring but I’m retiring from him.

Lots of twists and turns. Author keeps the story strong throughout. All the dots connected at the end - and conclusion made sense.

Yep. I can’t get enough of David B. His writing is fabulous. It’s tight, no holes or gaps in character development and storyline that often lead to disappointment. (I used to be addicted to James Patterson, but now that he lets other authors write alongside, or perhaps instead of, I wonder whether some of the novels actually ever get edited). PS. With this book, make sure you read it in the right order. There’s a series of four Atlee Pine and I inadvertently read them out of order. They were still fabulous, but it might have even better if I’d have realized I had the wrong order. Enjoy!!

3 1/2 stars Better and mor believable plot than the first book. Too quick of a wrap up with the author simply spelling it all out. Enjoyable but a lame wrap up. Hal R

Long, drawn out and very predictable, I don’t like novels that drag story lines into book after book especially when they are so predictable. Not enjoying this new character.
